Truly handicap accessible venues
Hi ladies,Newly engaged here, and already overwhelmed! My first priority is to find a reception venue that is 100% handicap accessible so all our guests can be accommodated and welcomed. I've been to a few weddings where there were steep ramps (totally not ADA compliant), random short staircases preventing access to cocktail hour food, handicap entrances in the very back of the building... not very respectful for our grandparents who could get around on their own as long as the building is up to code. Guest list will be between 120 and 150, most likely. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Our venue is the Village Club at Lake Success and EVERYTHING is on the ground floor. If they want to go outside to the patio areas, smooth transitions without any hazards such as steps. The bridal suite is the only thing upstairs to worry about but if someone disabled want to go there, elevator is there! There are a few steps at the main entrance of the venue but they have a wheelchair lift outside. I'm in the rehab field so this is stuff that I totally take into consideration and look over :)

This was something we were looking for also and not many venues have it. Unfortunately if they were built after a certain time, they're not 'required' to do any major renovations. Fox Hollow explained to us that our wheelchair bound guest would be taken from cocktail hour, outside to the patio, then employees would roll him over to the ramp access to our room. I wasn't in love with the fact that if it was raining, they'd be taking FH's 85 year old grandpa outside to get him inside but it is what it is. He ended up passing away a few month after we booked so the point is moot for us now.

The vineyards is all on one floor-the only thing that has steps down is to the outdoor ceremony but you could just go from the outside.

I made sure there was access for my grandmother and my FH's nephew who is wheelchair bound. The ramp to go inside is in the back but that's where my ceremony is so you have to go that way anyway to the ceremony then after ceremony theres a large winding ramp to the cocktail hour. then across the hall is the main room but theres 3 steps. they have a large removable ramp they put on the second set of steps so there's steps and a ramp. I was happy with it. and they have close access to the bathrooms - but this is only the room on the 1st floor!

Bellport Country Club has everything on one floor. My grandma may be needing a wheelchair so we took this into consideration as well.

Larkfield is all on one floor and has elevators if needed to go to the second floor. No small steps or staircases either.

The aquarium in Riverhead is completely handicap accessible because they are a public venue. My younger brother has cerebral palsy and uses a walker so even though we already loved the aquarium, it sealed the deal that they were so accomodating! Everything is ground floor, even the restrooms. They have the upper part of the shark tank if you have a larger guest list but that is accessible through an elevator. I don't know much about the sea star because we aren't using it, but that's the aquarium :)Welcome New Vendors
