Ok...so i'm excited and cannot wait to go dress shopping for my dream dress! But, I'm a little scared.... When FH proposed, I was a street size 17... I'm rather quickly getting back down to my size of when I met him ... street size 9... I gained a TON of weight when my father passed. Right now Im' currently a 13 jean, and I'm scared that they won't have my dress in my size. I don't know how this whole process works, but I want to make sure to try on my EXACT dress in some-what close to my size. Do most bridal salons carry liek 2 or three sizes of the same gown..?? I'm so lost, and I don't want to drag my Mom all over the place and not try anything on that I want... Can you girls PLEASE help..? I want to make appointments, but again, I'm a bit scared....
TIA

Re: Trying on Dresses...
I know most bridal salons carry a sample size of each dress. If you go to a place like David's, they normally have several sizes of each dress.
Davids has a lot of different sizes but most bridal salons seem to have 1 size of each dress and that is normally a 12...mind you a 12 in a gown is not a reg 12. For instance...I normally wear a 6 and my gown was ordered in a 12. Try going to Davids first to get an idea of what you are looking....most salons only carry certain designers unless you go to a place like Kleinfelds....

Re: Trying on Dresses...
it was really hard for me to try on dresses at most shops because they carried mostly 10's & under. it was tough. so what i started doing was calling the bridal shop before i got there to see if they had designer's & styles i was looking for in a size close to my own.
even though TWC in commack gets a lot of heat, they carry a lot of dresses & all sizes. they have a lot of inventory. it's not where i got my dress, but they had gowns that came in close.
david's also has a lot of inventory in many sizes.

Re: Trying on Dresses...
most places only have one size of each dress.. i was told yesterday at a bridal salon that its impossible to carry every size and every color of every dress so they stick with one color and one size...
its its too big they just use the clips to fix the size... if its to small they help hold it up so you can kind of see what the dress looks like

Helen's in commack has samples in normal people sizes so i would recommend going there...not only that but they have a great selection and the staff is GREAT!

They will squeeze, stretch, clip, and overlay you into that bad boy.
I'm a 20. They crammed my fat a$$ into an 8. No lie.
Here's the problem - you're giving odd number sizes. Are you dressing from the Junior section? If you're dressing in Juniors because of your height, and you try on a wedding dress that's several sizes smaller than you, you MUST ask them what they're going to do to make the dress fit your height. As the dress size goes up to your size, they'll make the torso longer and it may not fit as well. Cutting down a bodice is not an easy job.
If you're a short person with a proportionately long torso and short legs, you probably won't have this problem.

Re: Trying on Dresses...
I only tried on dresses close to my size, which is borderline plus size. the lowest was one with size 14. It's hard to see what it'll be like if it's too small or too big. I only went to David's and a smaller shop in my mom's town. And they had enough of the bigger selection that it wasn't much of an issue. They will clip you or hold it together if it's too big/small. It really wasn't a big deal.

Re: Trying on Dresses...
Ok here is the thing, the chances of you finding the sample in your actual dress size are slim to none, most samples are a little beat up, they are stretched etc. If the dress is too big they just pin it in the back so you can see what it would look like if it was your size, its its too small you can still get the idea of what you like.
I am pretty small (1/2 street size) and just about every sample I tried on was a 12 and up, I dont think I tried on one dress that was my size or close. They carry one dress (maybe 2) of each sample. Just go and try them on!
