Re: trying on dresses with fiance

I haven't gone yet, but my FH will ABSOLUTELY NOT be there!!!!!

I've asked if he has any preferences and he actually laughed at me saying 'would you really listen anyway???'

FH knows he gets no say in my gown and doesn't get to see it until the doors to the church open.

Re: trying on dresses with fiance

I did not have my fiance come with me nor will he see my dress till the day of BUT I have heard of this and actually think it's become quite popular for the fiance to go with the bride to try dresses on.

I guess its ok if you are ok with it =)

Re: trying on dresses with fiance

Just be careful if you do go shopping with FH... Once I went to a bridal store to drop off payment for a BM dress for a wedding I was in and FH came in with me to drop it off. You should have seen the death glares he got!!!!! If looks could kill he would have been dead in under one second. If you go to a store with your FH, there will be other brides trying on gowns so just keep this in mind. Having FH in a bridal shop may make everyone else a little uncomfortable.

Re: trying on dresses with fiance

NO WAY!! I don't really get this new trend. I have heard of it and seen it. I am not even having my Dad go. I think there is something special there too when he sees me at my house before we leave.

I have asked FH if he wanted to see my gown, in a magazine... he was like NOOOO.... I was never actually going to do it, I just wanted to hear his reaction. I even held up the magazine on some random page and he was shielding his eyes from it and yelling at me to stop. He said he wants it to be a surprise.

Re: trying on dresses with fiance

Not only did DH come with me he also helped me pick out my dress. I was stuck between 2 and gave him final say.
I enjoyed having him there and felt less self conscious about it knowing that he would be 100% honest with me.

Re: trying on dresses with fiance

I had my FH come with me because I have no friends or family to come in FL so I its really me and him. If I were in NY it would be different. He just told me no if he thought th dress looked bad but in the end he won't know which one I will choose. However, I still haven't found the one yet but at least I have an idea what he thinks is really nice

My sister went with her FH to try on the dress and she said it was fine. She is very self concious and only trusts him to tell her the honest truth.. i think its ok if hes ok with it.

Re: trying on dresses with fiance

Mine definitely did not come with me. I think part of the beauty is surprising him with your dress on the day of your wedding. It leaves him in suspense up until that last day when he finally sees you. It's more romantic.

Re: trying on dresses with fiance

DH came with me to try on dresses. We had a great time! The store was a little shocked to see him there, but they were fine with it. Funny story -- before we went to the bridal salon, we ripped out pages of nice dresses from bridal magazines and realized that we had totally the same taste. So we showed my consultant the pics and she had the La Sposa in stock which I tried on, loved and bought. Turns out DH was the person to rip that picture out from the magazine, so essentially he picked out my dress!

There is a big difference between a sample gown though and the real fitted gown. Even though DH saw me in the sample in the store, he wasn't there for fittings and close to 11 months went by bewteen the time I bought the dress with him there and our wedding day. It was no less special!

Some pros to think about -- if FH is there with you, you might be more likely to stick to your budget. With your mom or friends, you really might be pressured into spending more than you want because you have people telling you to do so. With FH there, I stated my budget and stuck to it.

Some cons - you and FH have to have the same taste, the same vision. He also has to realize that he cannot just free-for-all comments, because you might really live puffy skirts and he just has to deal with that. Luckily DH and I went right for the same style so it made it really easy -- I went to one salon, tried on 4 or 5 dresses, and that was it!

Re: trying on dresses with fiance

I absolutely did not want my DH to see me in my wedding dress before I walked down the aisle. I was very traditional when it came to my wedding. No seeing each other before the ceremony, very traditional vows, etc. Just a personal preference, I guess!

Re: trying on dresses with fiance

No, I didn't want him there because we have such different taste and I didn't want him to discourage me out of a dress that I really loved. Besides there is not enough money in the world that I could pay him to make him come. He hates shopping with me...lol.. I did sent him a link to the page that my dress was on though and I asked him if there we any dresses on that page that he absolute hates and he picked mine...lol...I didnt tell him though, he'll see it on the day..lol
