Trying on Priscilla of Boston - Pics!!

Trying on Priscilla of Boston - Pics!!

So after trying on those dresses at Macy's and not finding the one for me, I headed over to Priscilla of Boston where I KNEW I wouldn't find the dress for me because they're out of my price range. I just wanted to get an idea of what the perfect dress for me might be, so I can scout out similar styles at prices I can afford (like, am I better in white or ivory? Strapless or non? Lace or something shiny? etc.).

So, I got what I wanted. I can't buy a POB dress, but I got to try on beautiful dresses - a few Melissa Sweets, a few POBs. I got my own fancy room with couches and a satin robe to slip into between dresses, and a lady to fuss over me like crazy. I was not allowed to take pics... but every now and then the lady would run out to get a veil or something for me to try. So I have a couple.

This was my favorite. Excuse the boob saggage - there was no bustier in there and my strapless bra wasn't doing the trick! Gorgeous, right? $4900.

But I loved being in it, and the lady got me a veil to wear with it. First a chapel-length veil - hello? My wedding is in a GARDEN in the afternoon - and then a pretty elbow-length veil that was perfect. I think this pic came out really cool:

Then I asked if they had any Watters gowns. I think Watters looks great on their web site and in magazines, and POB is supposed to carry the full line. Well, you should have seen how the lady's attitude changed when we were dealing with the Watters gowns (avg. $1200 or so). She was like a different person. So she told me they only had 2 in stock that would fit my wedding. One was ugly as all heck, and this one was pretty (sorry for the bad angle, but we had to sneak it really fast!):

So, I'd recommend POB if you can afford it. The dresses are just beautiful, and they treat you like a queen. However, I was disappointed because I do like Watters gowns and on the Watters website they tell you that POB stores are where you go to see the full collection, and this one only showed me 2 gowns. Whether that's because they truly didn't have them or because they wanted me to buy something more expensive, I don't know. Either way, I didn't get to try them on, which was a little disappointing.

Oh well. I'm going shopping again in Long Island on Friday - can't wait!

I don't know! Any suggestions?

I don't have any specific designers in mind, so I want to go places with a big selection. I've heard great things about Lillette's, so if I can get an appointment there for Friday, I'd like to go. I need one or two other places, though.

Hm well I only shopped on LI so ill recomend a few

Paradise Bridal of patchogue and bayshore are great! I actually got my dress at patchogue. They have very different price ranges and I love my dress

Bridal coture of manhasset-had beautiful dresses but I honestly woouldnt recomend them since this is where I found 'the dress' but then found it in patchogue for 1000 less

bridal reflections-CP I had a great experiance with them and they were very nice... they had alot of nice dresses all different price ranges

and the last one I went to was adriannes in east islip- she had great dresses...even dresses that she designs herself(very different)

but I heard they arent great with alterations..

I really enjoyed Lillette's. I had Lidia as my consultant. Its not at all like POB the dressing rooms are small and where you go to look in the mirror is in the middle of the store for everyone to see. I enjoyed the community feel the store had. It was a lot of fun, but its not at all private.
There were a ton of dresses to choose from too. Lidia was great. I told her what I was looking for and she grabbed some gorgeous dresses. She was very honest with me, if something didn't look good on me she told me flat out. Which I appreciated.
I found a gorgous dress there a Jasmine Couture..... I almost bought it but since it was my first day shopping I wanted to see more. I'm going to go to Bridal Reflections in Massapequa which I've heard good things about.

Dava,

That first dress you tried on is really old, its from like 3 seasons ago, i have seen sooo many brides selling it because it was their most popular dress from that line. If you love it you can defin get it for a fraction of the cost.

Let me know if you want the website information

Re: Trying on Priscilla of Boston - Pics!!

thanks for the LI recommendations, keep 'em coming! I'm from brooklyn, so a place in Nassau would be best. It seems like the best places are in Suffolk, though, from what everyone's saying. Bayshore is over an hour from me and I don't know if we'll be up for such a trip - we're spending the day on Thursday in CT looking at photographers.

By the way, this is the other Watters dress I tried on at POB. Pretty in the picture, right? Doesn't look like this AT ALL in person, at least not in ivory which really didn't suit it, and it really wasn't for me:

Thanks so much! I was actually wondering about that, because I've seen that dress in magazines forever. I was surprised they still had it, actually. I was thinking about pursuing it online, but wasn't sure if I loved it enough to buy it used - if I absolutely was head over heels and HAD TO have it, I might, but I'm not sure.

I'd be curious to see, though. Do you happen to know the name (or style number, I forget which they use) of the dress, so I can search for it?

The second dress is watters gown right? It looked great on you too! You have nice figure, so a lot of dress will look great on you. You don't need to spend alot of money to buy brand name dress.

The first one is really pretty! Who designed it? If you are worried about the cost, keep an eye out for sample sale on topbutton.com and you may be able to find it for a LOT cheaper!!!

Dava...that first dress is absolutely BEAUTIFUL on you!!!! I LOVE it!!! $4900 is ridiculous though...I would look into seeing if you could get it cheaper.

Wow, Nicole, thanks so much for the info!

I just checked it out and girl is way smaller than me (a size 0!) so there's no way I'd fit into it.

That's okay; it wasn't my dream dress, just the prettiest one I've had on so far. And I'll be trying on a lot more soon!

Thanks!

I was kind of skeptical before trying on dresses, but I think you're right - in almost every dress I tried on, no matter what the price tag, I felt like a bride and I felt happy. In 'real life,' I tend to buy more expensive things because I like having a higher-quality outfit that will fit great and last a long time. But for bridal gowns... I'm getting the sense that as long as it fits well, is flattering to your figure, and is comfortable, you're only wearing it for 8 hours one day of your life, and it doesn't matter how much it costs. But I needed to try on the higher-end stuff to figure that out.
