TTC question for girls 25 and under

TTC question for girls 25 and under

I will be 25 when I get married, and was wondering how many ladies in their early to mid twenties are planning to TTC soon after the wedding. At first I swore I wouldn’t even think about it for another 3 years at least. But as the wedding gets closer, I’m starting to think maybe I want to try sooner. I am not even sure if we’re both ready for babies yet, but FH and I have both expressed an increasing desire to have children lately.

Any thoughts?

I am 24, won't be 25 until January, I want to start right away. FH and I live together now,and have been for 2 years we do all the things we want to go on vacations, out to dinner etc. All of the things people told me were reasons to wait.

I'm 25, I had my first son when I was 22 - a little bit of a surprise, but the best surprise of my life. My FH is not Jordans biological father, but he is his Daddy and they absolutely adore each other. My FH and I are going to start trying immediately - we want Jordan to have a sibling without there being too much of an age difference and we know that we are ready.
It depends if you are ready or not - life changes completely after you have a baby. I wouldn't change a thing - but there are things that you just can't do any longer - you can't just go on a last minute vacation with your DH, you don't have the alone time as much any more. Make sure that you've enjoyed your time alone with him and that you are ready to share that time with a baby.

I am 25 and FH and I Dont plan on trying for about 4 years. There are many reasons for that, we dont live together and I want to really enjoy our time first. Second, I want to build ourselves up better financially so that there is the option for me to be a SAHM. Third, the way I see it is once you have a child you NEVER go back. THere is never a time where you are worry free or can just do what you want because you want to. I see my parents who have 3 grown kids (i am the youngest) and they still do for us, worry for us and are there for us, so much sometiems that it does interfere with their retirement. I think you only have a short time to just be with your DH before that time is done, I personally dont want to rush it.
We want to be able to settle into our new house, take some bigger vacations, and relax before sharing our life with kids. ONce you have a child, even going to the dentist or the supermarket becomes an issue. And this may be selfish, but I am proud of the fact that I know how I feel on this issue, but we are not ready for that yet.
Plus I think having 3 nephews, 2 neices, and 2 more on the way, has changed our view about when we want them. Before all the kids came into our lives, we wanted them sooner!

i could not have said it better myself, Kelly. I agree completely. Life was so hectic before my wedding; I did not have a minute to myself and things were crazy. After the wedding, everything got so blissful, peaceful and wonderful and I am loving the tranquility. I was 25 when I got married and now I am 26. My DH and I are enjoying each other, sipping wine on nights, a clean house, lighting candles occasionally, and doing all the wonderful things we want to do in life! And we are saving money to have necessities for the baby and a comfortable house. People come up to me a lot and say 'you are so lucky you got married so young and can afford to wait a while, do things and save money'. Plus, I am enjoying learning how to be a good wife, before a good mother. And lastly, I love being his only girl right now!!! Call me selfish, but I dont want to share him yet!

Im 25 now and I was 23 ( just shy of 24) when we got married and I still dont thinkthat I am ready for children yet. I Really want children but the idea of actually having them scares me!! I dont know if we could handle it. My Dh is def. not ready either. But if we do get pregnant of course we would deal with it, but we are not going to be 'Trying' for a while

You all bring up excellent points. I agree with the fact that it’s very valuable to have alone time with FH/DH once you’re married. I was mainly asking to see what other girls my age were thinking about TTC in the near future. I figure I’d wait another year at the very least, but I suppose it’s a wait and see type of situation. When it feels right, I guess that will be the time to start trying. But it can’t hurt to think about it .

i always thought that i would want a baby early, like 20-23, but as i have gotten older, i'm 26, i've realized that i would not have been ready then nor am i ready now. don't get me wrong, if it had happened or does happen, i know i will be up to the challenge and i will do my best, but i know that there is still a lot that i want to do. and on top of all that, we aren't married yet, we don't have health insurance that is fantastic, we don't have a home and we don't have the most secure jobs, so hell no, we are not ready. i want to be able to bring a baby into the world when i am going to be able to be selfless. right now, i am too selfish and believe me, i am not very selfish, but i am too selfish to have a baby. plus, there is still so much i have to learn about life in order to be a good mom. i want a baby and so does fh, but damn, this puppy is hard work...i can't imagine a kid.

FH and I have discussed TTC one year after we're married. We'll both be 28 and we think it would be ideal to start our family.

It's different for everybody - you'll know when you are ready! Being a Mommy is the most amazing thing!

To all those young- please please please make sure that you are financially secure and can take care of the baby should anything bad happen or the relationship go south between you and DH. I know that it's a horrible thought, but you need to know that IF something happens and you get a divorce that you can take care of your child and put food on the table. My mother got divorced when i was 3 years old and thankfully she was able to make ends meet AND had lots of support. Having a child is a great responsibility.. one that sticks with us for the rest of our lives.. and we all know that our lives and our circumstances can change at the drop of a hat.

you are absolutley right!!! and not to sounds like a dork, but i suggest that everyone gets a puppy first! it's a glimpse, i think, into a world that one can never leave. there are so many kids out there who are not wanted. their parents don't want to spend time with them. these kids 'got in the way' of their parents lives. i don't want that for our baby. that's another reason why we've waited and will wait. my mom would LOVE to have a grandchild, but i'm not ready to get 3 hours of sleep or not be able to buy myself new clothes or take a bath or go away for the weekend. sounds materialistic, but until i can do without, i know i am not ready.
