My FI and I went shopping for wedding rings yesterday and found a ring for him that we both love - the salesman said that the Tungsten Carbide would not scratch and has a lifetime guarantee (which is great b/c he could wear it to work without worrying). I am just hesitant because I've never heard of this type of metal before. Does anyone know anything about it?

I had never heard of it before your post. It sounds like a material similar to titanium and being that titanium will become the hottest thing in jewelry (at least the industry hopes so) I'm guessing this is competition. I found some info here: Tungsten Carbine
Note, that like titanium this metal cannot be sized...it is not malleable like gold, silver and platinum.

Re: Tungsten Carbide
my FH originally wanted a Titanium w-ring, then heard about Tungsten and wanted that. Tungsten it very heavy (like platinum) and you really have to try hard to scratch it. it's not cheap though. the one's he was looking at online were $700, compared with Titanium which was $100.
my FH ended up with a gold w-ring.

Re: Tungsten Carbide
This is the ring my FI wanted and we bought. He LOVES it and wants to wear it already (wedding this Saturday). Because of his job and active lifestyle we thought it was perfect, looks great too. They sell them at Fortunoff so if you're registered, you get the discount. Just give yourself plenty of time to order,it takes a while. Its true, ordered to fit and NO resizing....although....if you order it on-line,most companies give you a one time, lifetime option to resize. In other words, they'll take back your ring and send you another for free- ONCE.
