Turnaround Time on Passports

Original post by mRm2008

Hey Ladies!!
Just wondering time frame on passports right now. I know last year they were taking 3-4 months for some people I know who applied for them(FIL's ).

FH and I have our appointment with Post Office next week to have the photos done and paperwork sent out. We will not be HM'ing until Oct/Nov. I am sure we are within plenty of time!

I wonder why it took so long last year????

because they had just made the new regulation to include cruises so everyone that already had them booked was scrambling to get a passport

Last year i know they were taking really long to come back to people, i know people who waiting 6 months to get them back....i did them expediated last year because i applied in April and went away with FH in June, so i was worried they wouldnt come in time....one came back 7 days later, the other came back 9 days later

i have heard now that they take 3 weeks to come back, i dont think theyre as in high demand as they were last year

in 07 they passed new rules about people going to the caribbean, so more people went to get passports at that time

we went to get ours this past dec and we got them back in january. THey told us it take 3 to 4 months but it only took like 3 weeks.

And some post offices require appointments for the picture and others don't. We went to one in hempstead and there was no appointment need. You can go on the website to see if appointment is needed

I was just going to say the same thing- sometimes you do need an appointment if you're taking the pictures at the post office.

Also from my experiences some post offices that aren't as busy (or have dumb people working there) tend to have passport applications processed faster.

When I applied for a passport when FH and I went to Mexico I applied with 6 months before our trip- I didn't get it until the week before (and that is with express processing which I got refunded because it took so long) our trip- I got lucky though because I kept following up so much on it they must have been so sick of hearing from me.
