ok....what does my dad and his dad wear in regard to a tux? Do they match my groomsmen or just get a style tux that they would like? I am not sure how this part works.

i think my dad is matching the groomsmen. FFIL hasn't decided if he is renting or wearing the one he already owns.

it's completely up to you what you want to do....i decided to have my dad and his dad in the same tux, tie and vest as the groomsmen

Both are wearing tuxes but they won't match the GMs. My mom is picking out my dad's and FMIL is going with FFIL to pick out his. I'm guessing they'll match their wives.

my dad and ffil are wearing same tux but dif vest and tie then the GM- they are wearing silver to match the mom dresses while the GM are wearing wine color.

Our Dads are wearing the classic tuxedo with white shirt, black ties and vests. They will be different than GM's who are wearing black shirt, black vest and ivory tie.

we have ours wearing black, not matching anyone. my best man is wearing a latte color to match my sister, and fh is wearing silver. we only have a best man, no gms.

This was fun! My FMIL of course had her own opinion... We have the dad's wearing the same style tux as everyone else the BM/ GM and FH. The dad's are wearing the same color tie and vest. But they are not wearing the same color as the BM/GM
We've changed the dad's vest and tie so many times and plus FMIL thought they should match! (which yes it is okay) but FH didn't want that.

My dad and FIL wore black tuxes with black vests and ties. The vest and ties were the same style as the GMs.

We went with classic black and white for the dads - black tux, vest, tie, white shirt. They will not match the GM's

my dad wore a tux but he didnt match GM. We let my dad and his dad pick whatever color vest and tie they wanted to wear.

update: FFIL and my dad are wearing charcoal vests w/ black/charcoal strips.
FH is wearing gold vests w/ gold/ivory strips
groomsmen are wearing brown vests w/ brown/off-white strips.
