tux rental and Tuxedo Park?

Hi all,

This is my first post here, and I'm actually the groom in this case... Sorry for the invading this space, but there doesn't seem to be much traffic over in the Grooms forum!

Can anyone possibly give me some feedback on experiences renting with Tuxedo Park? I've seen some bad comments and I'd like to further understand the issues.

My fiancee (FW?) and I are getting married at Oheka Castle on May 16th, a saturday night, so we are about 6 weeks out right now (ack!). We've been planning for around a year and half and have been lurking here for quite some time though never posting. We've benefitted amazingly from all the knowledge and info that we've gleaned, so thank you.

All our vendors are booked obviously at this point, and we are just dealing with a ridiculous ton of small stuff. My one sticking point is tuxedo's still. I've bought my own, but need to set up rentals for my groomsmen. The look I've been going for for myself is single button peak lapel (classic tuxedo style), with a straight white tie and vest, with the groomsmen doing darker gray vest and tie. I've been torn for quite awhile over renting in the city or out on the island. In the past I've rented for myself at a place in the city called Baldwin Formals, on 45th and 6th. The quality of their stuff is great (more on this later), although the service I received when I went down there a few weeks ago was indifferent at best, and I really didn't feel that they were at all interested in helping me very much (the guy I was working with seemed a little annoyed that he had to help me at all!) I haven't been there in a few years, so maybe things have changed. Anyway, the other problem with renting in the city is that my soon to be father-in-law and brother-in-law are out on Long Island, plus I've got 2 out of town groomsmen who are flying into either Islip or LGA the night before, so it'd be better for them to be able to go right to the store and pick them up, rather than have us pick them up and bring them out to huntington, given that there will always be small alterations or adjustments to make.

So, given this, Oheka Castle recommended Foresto's to me. I went out there to meet them and they were wonderful. Really knowledgeable and I felt I could actually trust them. The selection is moderately lacking however in a few ways. They only have rental shirts with pleats, and while that's the standard look for a tux, I believe its not the correct look to go with a straight tie. As for the straight ties themselves, for rental they don't even have that you can tie yourself, just the cheesy pre-tied knot that you hook together (I haven't worn anything like that since I was 8 years old!) Also, the tux pants come with those annoying adjusters that slide back and forth. I've had bad experiences with that in the past. Previously when I've rented at Baldwin or some other nicer places in other cities, they actually would do a small alteration even for a rental, where they put in a few stitches to hold everything in the correct place. So my dilemma here is that I know I can get the proper stuff at Baldwin in the city, proper alterations, proper ties and non pleated shirts, but they are in the city and I didn't get good service. At Foresto's, it kinda screamed a little bit of prom. Now it may just be making a big deal out of it, I'm gonna have all my own stuff, but I'd like to find something a bit better for my groomsmen if possible.

So... Another commonly mentioned vendor here is Tuxedo park. I've seen about a 50/50 split between great comments and bad comments. Can anyone explain the negative experiences they had with them? Regardless, I think I need to call them today and see if they actually have a bigger selection that might more closely conform to the parameters I'm looking for. Are there any other great vendors around that people would suggestion for an oheka castle wedding?

Only got 6 weeks at this point, so I need to get going ASAP!

Thanks for any insight, it's greatly appreciated!
