Tux selections was a horror......vent.....

Original post by MomNeedsTissues

Ok so if any of you recall past posts from my daughter and myself about my sons upstate wedding, this is YET an continuation...

My son calls and askes me Saturday if I would like to go with him for his tux fitting/selection. Seeing I was an after thought for helping him I went. It was fun, exciting to being able to do something with him. When he tried on the first tux, came out of the dressing room, i burst into tears. ok ladies, now it gets better.

His FW was there also, her dad, her brother, one of her BM's , myself and my cousin (who was up visiting with me for the weekend). We had many laughs, many tears. His FW is a horror from hell. She was so DEMANDING on what HE wanted to wear. He tried on a white tux, back, white with champagne, and it goes on and on. She insisted on dressing him so the sales woman just walked away. I told her 'he's a big boy, he can dress himself' she told me 'I WILL DO IT'. okay!!!!!!

Well, after an hour and a half, he came out dressed in his street clothes and I asked, 'have you decided on the tux?' He said he wasn't sure. So I said 'well if YOUR done, I'm going to go. At that point, she was standing behind him and said 'she's leaving because she didn't get her way'....I then, a bit loud and nasty said 'I only asked MY SON a question and if he's done, theres no need for me to stay. I'll just be surprised to see him at the wedding'...then it got worse. I asked him if he had called the ring bearers parents to let them know whats going on. He said no and I tired to explain respect, curtisy (spelling) and then she chimed in again, over his shoulder, pointing her finger in my face and said 'this is none of your business'. I then answered louder 'I am talking to MY SON, NOT YOU so this doesn't concern you'..he said not a word to her nor me. I started to cry, stormed out of the store.

I've been so upset since. If he didnt' want my opinion on his tux, then why the hell did he ask me to go? I called my darling daughter and i was was upset that I had upset her. I need to talk.

This girl just doesn't get it. She is dictating everything that he does and his so blinded by this. Its very heartbreaking.

I'm sorry this is long. I'm just so emotionly upset and drained. I can't wait till this nightmare is over. I've tried to do everything humanly possible for them and all I do is keep getting a kick in the teeth and a knife in the heart.

That sounds pretty bad. I feel bad for your son the most, though. It seems obvious that he's uncomfortable with the relationship that you and his fiance have- that's why he didn't say anything at all. I think he was hoping that you and his fiance would get along and choose the tuxedo together. I think he wanted YOU BOTH to be involved. But, then it got ugly.

I know that with my fi, I am pretty tough with the wedding planning. I just want everything to be perfect. So, I can understand why the girl was being so particular about the tux.

My FMIL and I have issues sometimes, but I think it's mostly a culture thing. She did not come to the United States until she was 38 years old.

I know that if my FMIL EVER said to me, 'I was asking my son, not you' I would be furious. But, again, I'm in a different situation. I help my FMIL with things- she doesn't drive a car and her English isn't good. So, we take her places, make phone calls for her, and write letters for her (So she BETTER be nice to me )

Totally agree. I feel bad for your son. Also, you have to remember that it's their wedding and brides are really particular on how they want their day to go...it stinks for you, but as the grooms mom you sometimes have to just take a step back and remember your son's feelings. I'd hate for this to effect your relationship with him.

I agree with LIMom

My SIL is an idiot. She knows I feel this way.. but the wedding planning was horrible because she thought she was the 'one'. I was an afterthought as a BM and Im his only sister!!! We all feel she's worthless but we love my brother and realize its what makes HIM happy that matters. We backed down on the wedding planning and let her have it her way.

Just Glad it wasnt my wedding!

Now she's the mother of my nephew and my father's only grandchild. We sorta gotta put up with her now. She wins.. Is it grueling (sp) and heartwrenching? Absolutely. But that's love isnt it?
