Twins

Who has Twins that run in the family or that run in DH family? I JUST found out that DH has twins and triples in his family!!! They are relatives that they are not close to. But from what I hear, they are in the genes.. I had NO CLUE!!!!

My FH too! I just found out!
Not close at all but they are there somewhere in his family. Plus my grandfather had 2 brothers that were twins ... I wonder how the gene carries down because it's a little scary!

I think it the mother's genes. There are millions of little swimmer's so they would have to be more than 1 egg. I read that it could be genetic, older woman have more instances of twins, ans taller woman. I will find the info and add a link.

I think identical twins only one egg is released and it would have to split. (which could be caused by the sperm)?
I dont know for sure though I have to do some research.

Identical twins are not genetic.

Fraternal twins are genetic. The 'gene' is passed on from mother to daughter.

Too bad for me. I want twins! My FH is a twin, my dad is a twin, my FH 1st cousins are twins.... but no one on my mom's side.

GOOD TO KNOW!!! They were all sitting around teasing me about it and I dont think that I would be able to handle twins!!!!

My grandfather was a fraternal twin and DH has fraternal twin siblings. I was nervous about this but whatever happens happens. I think having twins is probably better the first time around before you know what you are getting into , I am sure they are a ton of work!

Twins run in DH side.... only one set in my family.
I went to high school w/ a girl who was a twin & she had twin siblings 2 sets of twins!!! God bless their Mother!

I'd want twins too!

My cousins on my mom's side are identical twins - that doesnt mean much for my future kids..

But - My mom's cousins are fraternal twins - so i guess there may be hope??

DH is an identical twin
My great grandmother was a twin
My dad had twin cousins
my Dad's sister has identical twins
My mom's brother has fraternal twins

They're adorable, but ALOT of work!! I used to take the school bus to my aunt's house when I was about 13 to take care of my twin cousins when they were infants just so my aunt could take a SHOWER!!!

DH is convinced we'll have twins. We'll see...

I think twins can happen to anyone (two spermies hitting the egg at the same time) but generally speaking its the mother's side that makes it dominant.

Jim's family has twins, his generation (him, his brother & Sister) are due for the next set. I have no twins on my side (we have that Syndrome instead) but my stepsister (who also had no genetic reasons) had twins.. faternal no less. I dont know how, but she did. We raised them, they are my twin brothers who will be in my wedding ceremony.

I loved raising twins. It was great. If I had a choice I'd have a set of twins and be done with it.

ETA: Actually if we had idential twins who carried my syndrom gene with presenting symptoms that would be kinda cool. Two kids (boys/girls or both) with black hair and the blue eye brown eye combo. awesome.

I can't wait to have a kid. LOL

His grandmother was a twin, my aunt was a twin, and I have 2 sets of twin cousins! (one with fertility drugs though)
When my SIL was pregnant they thought you might be having twins! what was funny was that my brother kept teasing her before they were TTC that they going to have twins! when the DR said it was a possibility due to the way she was developing (before teh sonograms) I thought she was going to kill my brother! It was very amusing!
