Two Newlywed Divorces in my family!

Two Newlywed Divorces in my family!

So my BIL and his wife are divorcing. Basically they didn't know each other that well (they dated like 3-4 months before they got engaged-which she claimed was normal in their Orthodox Jewish community), and they were both unemployed for almost the entire year they were married. Also and honestly, she was a crazy B*TCH, but I'm not gonna get into that on here - let's just say that his entire family (and me) is glad it's over. But they got married in the end of August 2003, so they barely made a year.

And now my cousin is also getting a divorce. She's - well, honestly, she's also a little crazy, but she's my cousin. She got married to this guy in Georgia (where she was living) ALSO barely knowing him (like they were friends for a year, dated for few months or something), and she has two kids. At the time it seemed like she married him because she need an apartment - and it felt bad to say, but she was a new born again Christian and wouldn't live with him otherwise. And now she's back in NYC with her kids, living with her mom's one bedroom apartment and 7-8 months pregnant. They got married in December.

I don't even know why I'm sharing this with you all, I'm just venting, and both situations piss me off - maybe it's because all of those divorce statictics seem depressing, but if you think about it, both of these cases the couple didn't know each other. So I guess - make sure you know your FI really well! If you do, you have one up on a lot of the people marrying out there and a much greater chance, I think, of staying together!

Also, I have pics of both of these exes all over my proofs!

Wow that is really sad. But from what info you gave it sounded like the best thing for them to do.

Depressing. But doesn;t that make you feel even stronger about how great it is to have such history with your DH...

It really is depressing, but it does underline for DH and me what we have and how lucky we are to have it, and it makes me glad we didn't get married earlier, because I really don't know if we would have made it. It was very surreal at my BIL's wedding, because his family was so upset. And of course it was a big wedding in LA at the Park Plaza Hotel that cost a good deal of money.

For my cousin, it was very strange because she was in Georgia and there's only so much you can say to a person 'Do you really know this guy? Are you sure about this?' - if she tells you yes, that's all you can do. And we don't know this guy at all, just what she tells us and what we saw at my wedding, which was very little.
