Two things I learned at a bridal show last night

1. Fortunoff is filing Chapter 11 (bankruptcy) to 'reorganize. They are being bought by Lord & Taylor (or whoever owns them). They will be offering deeper discounts on items on your registry in the future. I.E now if someone doesn't get you something and you buy it yourself you get 10% off, in the future it will be 20% (so said the lady I was talking to)

2. Although a reception hall may tell you can only use certain vendors it is illegal for them to put it in your contract in New York. It is called restriction of trade and they cannot do that. They can tell you about vendors and recommend them but they cannot make you sign a document stating those are the ones you can use.

Wow I didnt even know there was RH that would try and force you to use their vendors only!! thanks for the info

I'm pretty true the Royalton restricts you to 2 florists. You sure #2 is illegal?

I'm pretty true the Royalton restricts you to 2 florists. You sure #2 is illegal?

I've never heard of them restricting you to certain vendors....but if you use a non-house vendor, make sure the RH receives allllll the correct documents, including proper insurance from the vendor you choose, otherwise, they can refuse to let them work there.

My RH says I can only use their florist recommendations for the ceremony since I'm having it there - can I really fight that??

Halls can't force you to use their vendors, BUT they can make it almost impossible not to use their vendors....they can make restrictions like someone said above about insurance and things like that, example: you can use any florist you want but they need to have 500,000 dollars in insurance incase they come in with your flowers and damage something on the halls property...that's just an example scenario i've heard of...

Is it in your contract? My RH also only allows me to use 1 of 2 florists. I later learned after I booked that they're really not supposed to do this but I had already signed the contract. I looked at other florists just in case i wanted to fight it but it turned out that one of the florist they recommended came in cheaper or the same as 6 other outside vendors and i was able to see a sample before i booked. i know some brides who have fought this but they had to pay some sort of fee to use an outside vendor.

Thank you for sharing, but I recall a bride being forced into using a particular florist, because her hall wouldn't let her use anyone but the 2 they let work in their hall. I hope she see's this and gets to fix it!

wow that;s good to know.. this one popular RH (no names) that we were looking and was almost ready to sign, told us that there's a particular caterer that they work with.. and no one else.. we picked up and left
