1. Fortunoff is filing Chapter 11 (bankruptcy) to 'reorganize. They are being bought by Lord & Taylor (or whoever owns them). They will be offering deeper discounts on items on your registry in the future. I.E now if someone doesn't get you something and you buy it yourself you get 10% off, in the future it will be 20% (so said the lady I was talking to)
2. Although a reception hall may tell you can only use certain vendors it is illegal for them to put it in your contract in New York. It is called restriction of trade and they cannot do that. They can tell you about vendors and recommend them but they cannot make you sign a document stating those are the ones you can use.

I know they can NOT tell you that you HAVE to use only their vendors.
As far as the outside vendors having propert insurance-ALL RHS REQUIRE THIS!!!!
This is something that brides DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT! When you book your vendors they take care of all the paperwork directly with the hall. EVERY business has to have insurance so its not a matter of questioning it-YOU have to have insurance if you are a legit business
BRIDES DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE INSURANCE! IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU!!!

I'm loving the whole 20% off at fortunoff instead of 10%, thanks for sharing.

Agreed. ALL your vendors have to prove insurance - your band, your photographer, your DJ, etc... And they all have it. They fax it over to your RH before the event.

WOW, that makes me SO mad at my RH, even though I LOVE the place, i could have done without being forced to use a particular vendor

Well, in THEORY all your vendors should have the proper insurance....but if your 'deal' seems too good to be true, and you've never heard them mentioned on here, or if the little voice in the back of your mind is saying 'caution', it's best to double check and make sure they do have that coverage. Most companies mentioned on here are legit, so it's not an issue, but there ARE some out there, so beware! (My legitimate business down here in NC has to compete with a LOT of people who work out of their kitchen and call themselves caterers.)
Also, as far as the Royalton is concerned, with them 'restricting' you to only 2 florists--I'm sure they do have some loophole to allow for the NY law. Like, you can bring in your own florist, but you or the vendor will be assessed an extra $500,000 charge. Otherwise, these are the 2 we recommend that wouldn't be assesed that outside vendor charge. They didn't start their business yesterday--I'm sure they had a lawyer dot their 'i's and cross their 't's. If you are wondering, check your contract, it should be in there.
