dumb question but what exactly is a cocktail dress now i'm getting confused

I would say a cocktail dress is a fancier dress for formal events/parties that is at or above the knee. I think what makes it 'cocktail' vs any other dress is the material. Like as opposed to a cotton or sweater dress, a cocktail dress would be like satin, lace, etc.

eta: both the dresses I'm debating between are satin and fitted... I debated the material since the wedding is during the day but it does go into night

Your dress isn't from Express, is it?? Mines satin too!! I bought both of them in Navy and Red and I don't know which to wear..they were crazy cheap so I decided to keep both!!

no, the navy one is this one by laundry by sherri seagal. I have had it for a while and haven't worn it yet. Simple but pretty on



The red one is by some designer I cant pronounce lol. I got it for super cheap because it had a broken zipper so I'm getting it fixed and it's supposed to be done by friday...or heads will roll

It's so similar to mine...These are the two I'm considering..The red is a real red but it almost looks coral in the pics..it's a deep jewel tone red..

The navy is without a belt..not sure why it has a belt in the picture online

HOLLA! I'm wearing sandals. I don't want to ruin the look of the dress with closed shoes LOL. My footsies will freeze. But it's okay, that will make them look skinnier

lol!! at this point, if most of the girls are going bare legs, i dont think sandals will make that much more of a diff. you'll be fine. you'll only be outside for like a few min!

BTW..do you think it is okay to wear a black dress with creamish white top. The whole dress is black except for the boobies up?

My gut is saying yes, but I normally steer so far away from white at all when going to a wedding, but I love this dress I bought!

the dress i have is actually black bottom with ivory top that im contemplating.. i wore it to a wedding last may.
