TWU Strikes! No trains or buses...who else is staying home?

I'm in shock and half asleep still, I can't believe they actually went on strike. I definitely can't make it into work...who else is staying home?

Unfortunately, DH has to go to work since he works in one of the boroughs and could drive.

I sure hope this does not go on for long. I am in VA but my hometown is Brooklyn NY.

My mom drives to queens to work and I can just imagine the extra traffic this morning for her.

I wish I could have stayed home. I drove in this morning - at 5 a.m. Someone please kill me now
I don't feel so bad for myself, I am lucky that I have a car or am physcially able to walk far if I had to-I feel bad for the old women and men who really can't get around with the buses. I have no sympathy for the union workers.

No staying home for me-we drove in at the crack of dawn-getting home should be fun.

I'm home today- my ride decided to work at a different office. He will be picking up DH and I tomorrow. I brought work home with me just in case.

Doesn't affect me as I work in Staten Island, but DH has to find a way to get to Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn to take the LIRR becacuse he has a conference in Midtown that he's expected to find a way to get to. I would drive him, but can't because of HOV restrictions.

FH left at 5:45 to get to work. I am waiting for a ride to school. I hope this is over soon.

I wish I was staying home, I'm already at work and have been here since 7:45am. My company had shuttle buses pick us up and drop us off in front of our building. They will be picking us up tonight as well to bring us back home.

They made it so easy for us to get to work

I am at work, I take the LIRR, so there were no problems getting here, but I am afraid to see what it is going to be like getting home later. I will probably leave by 3 to try and avoid the rush hour crowds, but I am sure it will still be horrible.

Thank goodness I live with FH, because his apartment is at 7th Avenue & 15th Street and my job is 33rd & 9th! We walked uptown together this morning and made it in about 30 minutes...maybe less. Not bad, but quite cold out there! I'm still a bit cold and I've been at work almost a half hour!

Yowsers! That's a long commute! I saw lots of charter buses in front of Penn station for companies like Citigroup & Goldman Sachs.

Yeup - they are actually pretty organized.

Wow, I'm astonished and proud of all those that care enough about their jobs to leave their houses in darkness to get to work. I sure don't! Companies that provide shuttles are smart, because how is one expected to get back using mass transit since most companies don't begin their contingency plans until tomorrow?

Anyway...off to a little trip...have a great day ladies!
