I would definitely still stick with your original idea! Take it as a compliment that she COPIED your idea. .. Which charity are you thinking about donating??

So let them. You know that it was your idea first. When they mention that your other family member did it, you can say graciously, 'I know. I was the one who gave her the idea.'

Do it!!! Donating to a charity is a great thing and it's great that both of you are doing that. Did she donate to the same charity too?

Don't worry about what other's are going to think. That is the number #1 rule in wedding planning...You originally wanted to do the donations. It is not really a big deal that she did it before you. It is a VERY common thing nowadays to do donations.

There are things that were done at both my FBIL's & my brother's weddings that I am copying. That is the great thing about attending weddings, to get ideas for your own

a donation to a charity should be a selfless act! It isnt about any cool idea or trying to look a certain way... it is about helping someone in need... if anyone dares to compare the two weddings saying you copied they are morons!

I wouldn't stress. Out of the past 4 weddings I went to, 3 had donations. More people are doing it and it is such a beautiful thing to do! Just present it diff. then her. It will be fine!

You could also do something that is a gift (like Livestrong bracelets) but also a donation. Besides, even people who think you 'copied' will think you were copying a wonderful idea (if they even remember that that was the favor at the other wedding!).

i would continue to donate - but do a different charity. i love the donation idea and am doing it in mine as well.

its ok to be pissed - but i have myself believing that people take ideas because they are not cool enough to think of it on their own.

Well why not donate to a different charity? Its like let say you said you were going give out chocolates at your wedding and she like the idea and at her wedding she gave up chocolate lolly pops shaped like hearts. Well then you can give out small chocolate lolly pops with your picture on it. You just have to be creative. There are many different charities out there. Why not donate to the foster care programs, how sweet that your helping children. Or if you wedding is near Xmas, why not ask people to bring a toy to donate for a toy for tots. That is a wonderful way to make your wedding unquic and special!
