ok.. now my mom is making me feel bad about putting all the $ towards a honeymoon.
If it were you, what would you do? Double the $ for your honeymoon and go to Hawaii, save it and it put towards a downpayment on a house that you'll be buying in 2 years, or some of the $ and upgrade the vaca you were originally gonna book?

Re: ugh
honestly if it were me i guess it depends on the amount of money but i would prob use it to go to hawaii, however, if it is a significant amount that would really help you guys out on a downpayment than save it

was this gift to be used for your HM? if so, i would talk to the person that gave you the gift.
if they really want you to enjoy your HM, i would go for it! its a gift!
yup.. the note said, 'I wanted to give you guys part of your wedding gift now so that you could use it towards your honeymoon since I know you guys were having a problem deciding on a place. Maybe this will help make the decision easier.'

Re: ugh
Make some upgrades to your original HM and save the rest for your house.

Re: ugh
I would upgrade the honeymoon & save for the house. There are so many good places you can go. You can now go to Mexico and stay in a rooftop villa with butler service & a private lounge pool (ALL INCLUSIVE) for nearly two weeks with airfare for under 4K. [Based on deals I found when looking online -expedia & orbitz before booking my honeymoon]. Not sure what your budget is for HI but you can definitely go somewhere amazing & romantic AND still get the house. Go to HI when you can afford it. You'll be wanting the house more (at least I would)...plus you could have both if you tweak your honeymoon.

Re: ugh
i say use the money for a house
your honeymoon will not be the first and last trip you take with your fh.
you need a lot of money for a downpayment on a house. i guess you need to decide if a few greats days are more important or a big help for the house of your dreams/ future
my mom gave me some money the other day. we are pretending we dont have.

Re: ugh
this is so hard - I feel like I would want to add some upgrades to the current honeymoon and save the rest for a house but I know my FH would pick the HM

Re: ugh
My real hesitation towards putting some of the money towards a house is the we aren't even going to look into buying for for another 2 years!
If we put some of the $ towards a honeymoon we were already considering we would be saving an addition 3k to put towards a house. So it's not THAT THAT big of an amount.
ugh, I know that part of me is trying to convince you girls but part of me also realizes that's 10k is A LOT of $ to spend on a vaca.

I would say go to Hawaii. If you are buying the house in 2 years, you have plenty of time to save that extra money. Your honeymoon only happens once.

I've gotta agree with Gina. We went on a super-long HM. We got a great deal but people were still saying we were wasting money. It was a little different with us because we had closed on our house right before the wedding, but according to people we should have been saving the money for furniture, etc.
We have NO regrets! We are older and knew the HM was going to be our last big trip for a while so why not.
Looking back at it, we would have stayed for longer if we could have gotten the time off from work!

Re: ugh
How much money would you be saving for a house if you don't go to Hawaii? Imo, if it less than 10 thousand, I would go to Hawaii. Honestly, housing prices are so high in NYC that 7 or 8 thousand really won't make much of a dent. Also, 2 years is more than long enough to save that money up. If Hawaii is your dream go. You might regret it if you don;t

Re: ugh
Honestly, with all of the work I have put into this wedding, and the other million things im doing at the same time, (just as we ALL are), one of the main things getting me through is the thought of that HM the day after!!!!!!!!!!!
you dont HAVE to HM in hawaii, i think if i were honeymooning in a cardboard box on a beach in the US id just be happy to have ME, FH, and NOTHINGGGGGGG TO DO or be responsible for....
i feel like its sooooooo important to have some sort of stress relief after something like this...
dont skip the HM, but if you need to save $, just dont go to Hawaii...pick somewhere more affordable and bank the difference!
