Ugh dress shopping troubles

So I tried on dresses for the second time last week and I'm just not finding anything I like. Everything feels wrong, either the dress looks pretty but it doesn't fit so I can't get a sense of how it looks on me, or the dress feels too...prom. I'm having trouble when I try on dresses imagining how it will look once I have it in my size. I have another appointment on the 12th and I'm just not looking forward to it.

Any advice ladies? I'm trying to get myself into a better frame of mind but it's just not working.

Re: Ugh dress shopping troubles

You will know the dress when you find it.

I was not all gooey and crying over finding mine, I just knew it was the one i could see myself wearing walking down the isle to my FH.
I tried on about 10 or so at one place and narrowed it down to 4. Went to David's Bridal and the first one I tried on was it. I did try on about 6 more after that to make sure, but that was the one.

You want to look like a bride, that is understandable, but you need to have fun with this too. I don't know what to suggest other than that. You can't get so stressed out that you dread it. You have a year and a half until you get married, take some time to breathe.
I'm Not telling you that you are starting to early, everyone has their own time frame and what works for them. I'm saying look for the dress sporadically, do other wedding or even nwr things in between. Work on some of the little things like table numbers, colors, favors, ceremony things. This may also help you find your dress style.
Heck I thought I wanted one thing and ended up with something else entirely. Something I had originally crossed off the catalog is what I found suited me best.

I don't know what to suggest. I only hope you are gentle with yourself and take time for you. Breathe. Enjoy the journey.

Ugh dress shopping troubles - Long Island Weddings

i think you jut haven't found the style you're looking for yet. you do have plenty of time, so definitely be open to all styles, because the one you may have in your head might not work for your body the way you thought it would. I wanted a fitted gown down to my upper thighs, but ended up with a drop waist a-line instead. I assumed a-line was like a ballgown and didn't realize that it looks similar to a mermaid gown and it looked way better on my body... so definitely be open to different fabrics and styles because they all drastically change the fit of a dress

Where have you gone? I was DREADING dress shopping. I purchased at Macy's but went to David's Bridal first. They have so many cuts and colors in the store in a ton of different sizes. It helped me get a feel for what looked good on me and what style best suited my 'vision' as I really didn't know what kind of dress I wanted. Be open minded. Try on all cuts, colors, and styles. My dress was picked out by the woman who works at Macys who was helping us!

Don't get discouraged!! You don't have to have a 'moment' but you will definitely know if it's NOT the one.

Ugh dress shopping troubles - Long Island Weddings

Don't put too much pressure on finding the dress. You will know once you put it on that it's your dress. I would try on a range of styles. My dress ended up being a style that I would have never considered before trying it on.

I agree it can be hard without the dresses fitting properly to see how they will really look. Maybe make note of a few that you are more interested in and see if you can call around and find them in a smaller size at another shop?

I got my dress at Max Bridal in Mineola and I felt that the sizes weren't overwhelmingly large on me, so I got a good sense of how they might fit. For reference I'm a size 6/8. Maybe try that store?..

Best of luck!

I agree with this, too. For me, getting a sense of what works on my body was really helpful. I liked some of the slinky mermaid/trumpet gowns, but for me- no. A-line all the way. Once I narrowed things down, it was a lot easier to focus on some of the other details.

Going to a place like David's Bridal is great because you can try on lots of different styles. I went once, tried on a bunch of dresses, liked a lot of them... and found that when I went home, I kept thinking about one particular dress. Tried it on a second time and bought it. But there was never the 'moment'... the hugging and crying and screaming. I just knew the dress was fantastic.

If you're feeling burnt out, don't feel bad about giving yourself a break. A few months off from dress shopping might get you to feel excited again!

Good luck!
