UGH Fine China (Poll)

Original post by SuzBride

I just can't decide if I want to register for this. I keep putting it on and taking it off. We had an eparty so alot of the stuff we wanted we have already received - except for the large stuff (vaccuum, mixer, etc). I kind of want the fine china, but I am afraid that we will never use it - or that we will just get like 5 place-settings.

So anyways - are you registering for fine china? How many placesettings? It would take 16 for us to feed us and each of our immediate families. I was thinking of registering for 10 or 12 though. FH doesn't want to register for it - since we don't even have a dining room set yet (actually he doesn't want a dining room cause he said it never gets used).

I think you should get china- Maybe register for a simple pattern that can go with anything.

I registered for a set of 12 but my family always uses china for holidays and stuff. If you don't think you will use it then don't get it. I had 2 friends who didn't register for china.

Register for it.. My take on it is that you are never going to want to buy it for yourself in years to come - something will always come before it, so just register for it and let those special people buy it for you!! It will come in handy, trust me.. You can even use it for your one year anniversary with your husband! -- it will be special

I'd register for it. Worse comes to worse, you don't get any place settings or you only get a couple. If you only get a few settings and decide later on that you don't need them, you can always return them. If you register for china at BBB, you can get cash back instead of store credit for anything you return from your registry. We registered for 14 place settings and got them all. We may not use our china for a few years, but I'm glad we registered for chine b/c we never would've bought it on our own.

Hmmm. I still can't decide. The problem is if we had holidays at our house - we would have at least 20 people there. Probably more like 30 at this point. There is no way I could ever accumulate that much fine china - damn big families! Maybe I should just stick with the Xmas china....... UGH! If only my gatherings would be 10 or less people,

We thought about not registering but then I found one I LOVED!!! I registered for 12 and 6 have been bought already and a few other things (platters bowls) (funny thing is those are the only things that have been bought off my registry?!?! i say HELLO i need pots and pans to cook!!!) I know I will RARELY use them! I'd rather use plastic plates that can be thrown out for large gatherings! broken plates and lots of dish washing is NOT what I want to do when I have a large group over! FH's mom uses fine china for holidays, half the time is spent cleaning them, my mom has 25 settings but uses plastic.. so do my aunts, much easier clean up! FH went home after going to my aunts for thanksgiving one day and told her 'they use plastic plates, it's so much easier you just throw them out it's great!' she looked discusted.. and said PLASTIC!... it was funny!!!! I say if there is nothing else you need and registry is full then register.. i NEED things on my registry, it's fairly bare!! But I agree it is just unnecessary STUFF to have!!!

I registered for quality casual china.
My mom is big into antiques, so I plan to work on an antique china collection, so we can do this together.

I'm having the same battle with crystal. We did register for china because we found a pattern that we loved. We registered for 12, but in reality we would probably need another 4 place settings, but we can get that on our own.

Crystal, though, I just can't justify spending $20-$50 on a glass to drink water/wine out of. I'm debating but it's still on my registry at the moment.
