UGH Fine China (Poll)

UGH Fine China (Poll)

I just can't decide if I want to register for this. I keep putting it on and taking it off. We had an eparty so alot of the stuff we wanted we have already received - except for the large stuff (vaccuum, mixer, etc). I kind of want the fine china, but I am afraid that we will never use it - or that we will just get like 5 place-settings.

So anyways - are you registering for fine china? How many placesettings? It would take 16 for us to feed us and each of our immediate families. I was thinking of registering for 10 or 12 though. FH doesn't want to register for it - since we don't even have a dining room set yet (actually he doesn't want a dining room cause he said it never gets used).

I love the thought of having china...the reality is my mom and sis use theirs once or twice a year...We decided to register for an all white set (service 14) and we are registering formal glasses and fine serving pieces..we figured the all white can be dressed up with accessories for fancy occasions.

If you want it go for it! It is up to you!

I didn't want to but FH insisted on it! He is really excited about eventually owning our own home and hosting holidays/dinner parties, etc. I think you should since you already received so many gifts from your e-party!

Honestly, If I were only to get one thing on my registry, it would be the fine china!!

Instead of doing fine china, we decided to register for holiday dishes that we can use Thanksgiving through January...We figured we would get more use out of it then fine china...Our pattern is Winterberry by Pfaltzgraff.

We got 10 place settings, but we have a small family. We got a very simple china pattern that didn't cost a fortune (69.99) and people can use the bed bath and beyond 20% off coupons.

I think one of the reasons I am hesitating is that in my 24 years of existence my mother has NEVER used her china. I don't want to register for all this $$$ china and just have it gather dust.

We are not registering for it, because we know for a fact we won't use it. that, and we break everything

I know we will use it ....not a lot but for holidays and special occassions so definetely wanted it. Remember you may not want it now- BUT a year or two or maybe more you may and then you will have it

If your mom doesnt use hers maybe she wants to pass it on to you...then you would have it, it would have meaning too

I am definately registering for it. This is one thing you will never buy yourself and may regret one day. My family has always used their fine china for holidays and special occassions. I think 12 place settings should be good and then over time you can add on as needed. If you honestly think it will be a display item only yuo may want to consider is it necessary

We decided not to register for the china. It's just not our thing.

we registered for it. every since i bought my house in sept, i have hosted many family get togethers. since it looks like most holidays will be at my house, i think china is a must!!

another option though is to register for higher quality, more expensive everyday dishes in place of formal china. check out the stuff from denby (bbb and fortunoff have it). if i didn't already register for china, i def would have added this stuff!

We registered for 12 settings. We've received 3. I don't know why we bothered - I'm happy to have the 3 but still...

I am such a dork and love setting up the table and making it look nice, so yes we registered for it, but we picked a set that is gorgeous but cheap.. 39.99 a place setting at bband b

I think it depends upon your situation. My mom's Fine China is timeless, so I'll probably inherit hers once I start hosting holidays.

What we may do is sort of what Lauren suggested, and is register for two sets of Dinnerware - one more an everyday set, and the other more high end- more fashion for when we do have dinner guests. We do more entertaining than we do sit down dinner, so I would love to find some cool serving dishes and really nice stemware.

We both have never lived together or on our own, so we need tons of stuff. We originally wanted China, but then I decided to forget it. I don't want people spending money on a set of china, when I am hardly going to use it. I rather them spend money on everyday dishes or a blender. We will be in an apartment for a while as well.
I pretty much made my everyday china, like fine china. I registered for a platter, serving dishes, gravy boat, nice wine glasses (Not expensive ones). I figured if we were going to have people over we could use these.

I am torn with this too. We are in an apartment right now and would never use it here, and we aren't thinking of leaving any time soon.
This is a question for my FMIL - she'll probably advise me best on this one.

I did register for fine China. Reason being is that although I have absolutely no use for it now, I know that as my FH & I get older and our families expand, chances are I will be hosting many holiday affairs, thus would want to have nice China to set my table. Besides that, at over $100 a place setting, I know that it would be really hard for me to pay for it all myself. That is something that I know I wouldn't buy, but would be nice to receive as a gift.

Hopefully, I will be able to pass the china down to my children when they get married.

I registered for a place setting of 12.

Hmmm. I still can't decide. The problem is if we had holidays at our house - we would have at least 20 people there. Probably more like 30 at this point. There is no way I could ever accumulate that much fine china - damn big families! Maybe I should just stick with the Xmas china....... UGH! If only my gatherings would be 10 or less people,
