This is really kind of lame in the grand scheme of things. But it's important to me. As a music teacher, I follow this amazing method in which you study for two weeks in the summer for three years. It's not mandatory that you take it in consecutive years...but, to be honest, I'd hate to leave it for a year, that's how passionate I am about it.
This is the dilemma. I made a crazy suggestion to a friend (I think before I was engaged actually). We both took our first level here on LI last summer and we weren't all that crazy about it...we found another school in Virginia that we know we will get our money's worth from. So we thought of going to Virginia for two weeks in 2007 and 2008. Well...my wedding date is August 4th. The course in Virginia goes from July 17-27!
Would I be out of my mind to take a course in Virginia 3 weeks before my wedding, and return a week before?
My friend suggested we hold off a year because I might not be able to focus on the course enough with the craziness of the wedding coming up...but I'm so anxious to keep going with these levels! I can just see me getting ready to have kids in the coming years and not wanting to leave them! Ya know, life happens!
Be honest with me now...would I be OUT OF MY MIND to go to Virginia and return on July 27....when the wedding is August 4th? I personally would be willing to take the local course (which ends two weeks before my wedding)...even though I know it will be less satisfying and much more expensive.
Ugh girls...would it be doable or should I not even try?
Thanks so much for listening!

Re: Ugh! girls, I need your advice....
Wow! I wouldn't want to be coming home a few days before my wedding..but that's my opinion. Are you the type that stresses out easily? I am and I think the last few days before the wedding are crucial.. If you could, I would put it off until next year if you can. If not and you think you can deal, then go for it!

Got that right!
Oh man...I guess that's my answer. I guess I was just hoping someone would say...oh come on, the few weeks before the wedding is NOTHING! There's nothing to do! How tough can it be?
Someone's a bit delusional here...
Thanks so much! I guess I was dreaming for someone to say it's really possible...but I suppose I'm the only one who can answer that.

I planned my wedding from LA and DH and I flew out to NY sometime during the week before our wedding. As long as you have everything planned and can get your last minute things (OOT bags, seating chart, etc.) together before you leave for Virginia, I don't see why it would be a problem. I say take the class there if you'll find it more rewarding. Best of luck!
Oh, and maybe make your RSVP date a bit earlier than you would otherwise, or else you'll have to deal with seating charts and calling people while you're in VA.
OMG so it's doable? Ahhhhh hope is a very dangerous thing!!!
Wow, that is amazing how you pulled it all off from LA!! Kudos to you!

Re: Ugh! girls, I need your advice....
I have a friend who went on a business trip to Greece right before her wedding. She came back just a couple of days before the wedding and everything was fine. She just made sure all of the details were taken care of before she left and vendors knew she was going to be gone so they made sure to get everything done before she left. And her DH now took care of anything that came up while she was gone. HTH!

If you get your stuff done before, there is no need to stress out!

I think its what you FEEL you should do. Its definitely doable. But me I could never, I would be so anxious during that whole time that I wouldnt be able to pay attention to what was going on. But at the same time it may calm you down and keep you occupied.
Do you think that you can do it?-then there is your answer

I guess I'm just expecting crazy things to happen that I would need to be in NY for...aye yi yi the possibilities!
Sad thing is...I have no idea if I could handle it! Sometimes I think I can...I can just imagine those weeks coming and it's totally dead as far as wedding stuff...and I'll regret not going to the course. Ugh I'm so stooopid!

I wouldn't do it. You defiently will want to enjoy that time before your wedding and get all of the last minute things accomplished.

You would be crazy to go away and come back the week before the wedding. There are so many last minute things that are coming up in the week before the wedding. I am wishing that I have an extra week.

Re: Ugh! girls, I need your advice....
okay, i think you CAN do it. i am a teacher as well and i am getting married in February! I will be teaching up until 2 days before my wedding... and that's only because i am taking 2 personal days right before.
provided you have the first few weeks in July off and get EVERYTHING done before you leave, i say why not? it actually might be good for you to get away from all the craziness that will onyl stress you out if you stay home and it's sounds like it's something you really want to go and that it's important to you...
good luck!

o dear god......I couldn't do it!! the weeks before my sister's wedding we were doing all sorts of random little things......
I would post this on the 06' board & see what the 06ers say....they could probably tell you what it's REALLY like the weeks leading up to the wedding....

I would do it, only if I knew I would be focused on the class the whole time and not worried about the upcoming wedding. This is something that you are so passionate about so it may be doable. Good luck!!

Very well said. I agree -- its all up to you personally. I couldnt just be coming home a week before my wedding...I'd be stressing thinking I needed to be home to take care of stuff. But, if you think you can handle it, then go for it.

Hey Tara!
I think you can do it my dear! As long as you get everything out of the way before hand you should be fine! And having the course to take your mind away from the wedding for a few weeks may be a good thing right?

But what if I can't get my mind off the wedding and I can't focus on the course? I can just see that happening....
I guess I'll figure it out when it's closer to the date for registering. But I really feel so confused about it- it stinks!!!
