I made an appt. in mid-November for my Passat to have 2 recalls looked at/fixed. I'm off this whole week-school vacation. They booked me for Monday 12/27. I get a call a few weeks ago saying they didn't realize they were closed that day and they rescheduled me for 12/28, which isn't a big deal.
I drop my car off early yesterday and still had to wait 1 whole hour just to get to the counter. The snobby lady in front of me, who got off line to answer phone calls and sit down and read the paper returned to the line in front of me just in time to walk up to the counter. If you have to step off line for an emergency call, fine. But to read the paper, no, you are not the queen and are no different than anyone else!!!! She gets to the counter, tells them about the 'funny noise' she began hearing Friday, and they TAKE HER W/O AN APPT.!!!!
I finally drop off my car for the two recalls. I didn't get a call back later that day to come and pick it up, so I called them. Well, of course it's not done! It just got on the lift in the late afternoon. OK, now I'm getting angry. Maybe it would have been done if you didn't take snobby lady! They said it should be done this morning.
This morning comes and goes without a call from VW. In the late afternoon I call them...nope car's not ready, it's waiting to get on the lift, again. It may be done at the end of the day. So, I call back a few hours later and, of course, the car isn't done again. Now it has taken them two whole days to look at and/or fix 2 recalls. I am stuck in my house these two days of my vacation waiting for the car. I asked the guy if that was how he'd like to spend his vacation. He said I should have taken a rental. Why should I pay out of pocket for a rental when my car has to only have recalls done!!!! Well, now it may be done tomorrow morning (I've heard that one before)...which is day 3.
I am fuming mad! I wish there was something I could do! I took the name of the guys supervisor but I don't know what good it will do. DH won't call b/c he gets all wussie about talking to people! DH and I have dealt the VW service before (he USED TO have a GTI) and this is always the case. I never have them look at my Passat but for a recall I have to! I don't even have a ride to go and get the car in the AM b/c DH is at work. I have to wait until he gets home. Now I may have to cancel my doctor appt. for tomorrow afternoon (I know another fun way to spend my vacation)!
AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHH!
Thanks for letting me get this off my chest!

Re: UGH! I HATE Legend (VW)!!!!!! LONG VENT
I used to have a Beetle and turned it in early because I was sick of all the garbage with Legend. My car had really low mileage and within two years of having it my engine light was going on... Problem after problem, and they wouldn't do a thing to help. Finally I reported them to the Better Business Bureau (and I also e-mailed the president of Legend- got the e-mail from the website) and finally got what I wanted from them... I told the guy, it was my dream car and I was so disgusted by their service I got to the point where I couldn't stand to look at the car... I have heard nothing but problems about Legend...
Good luck-- I know exactly how you feel!!!

Re: UGH! I HATE Legend (VW)!!!!!! LONG VENT
My best friend also had her 'dream car' the beatle from legend. She wanted this car SO bad. She had nothing but problems with the car and legend. She also had an engine light problem and a problem where the radio just stopped working. She hated the car Also HER DREAM CAR that SHE HAD TO HAVE. I felt so bad for her the car she so wanted and also her first new car and she had all these problems. She wound up having the car only for a few years and traded it in (at soverign sp?) to get a new Golf which she LOVES and I don't think she has had any problems with it. But her sister bought a GTI from Soverign (they picked them up the same day I was with them it was really cute) and she just had to make an appt. cause there was a puddle of water on the floor of the car. When she called the lady asked her if it was a passat when she said no and asked why she was told that they where having lots of problems with the passat for the same reason. Keep calling them stay on top of them and also fight with them. Can you drive your DH to work and use his car?
BTW: My mom had a 2000 Honda Accord EX she couldnt keep the car running they would go out to the store and come out and the car wouldnt start. This happened all the time!!!! Honda had no idea what it was. They called California and they had no idea. My mom was leasing it so she was paying her lease and car insurance on a car that was sitting in the shop sometimes for a month straight. Honda refused to give her a rental car finally probably like the 3rd time the car went in she demanded a rental and they gave her a Geo Metro. My mother didnt even drive it she felt so uncomfortable and unsafe driving it. She screamed at them that she was paying for one of the top of the line Hondas and they gave her a GEO Metro. The next time she got a Buick Regal. She hated the car and couldnt wait to get rid of it. Actually a few months before her lease was up she got a new Mercedes.

Wow, I am sorry to hear that! I have my car from legend and although the line for the service department is usually annoyingly long, I have never had any issues with the service!
I take my car there for oil changes and I had a faulty air bag and another small problem, both were remedied.

Hi ladies, I'm not sure where Legend is exactly, but I'm sorry to hear of all the problems.
I bought my Jetta from Bayside VW and to be honest their service has been great. They set-up the appt. at my convenience, they have a brand new service dept. in Great Neck w/ TV's, leather chairs, coffee, magazines and they tell you exactly how long the car will take. I've had little things go wrong (broke armrest, tight shocks on the trunk) & they've fixed them no problem.
Don't lose faith in your car, I'd goto another service center (if you can).

DH had taken his GTI to the one in Hicksville and it was slightly better service. He liked Donaldson's but it is a long drive for me!
Thanks for commiserating!

I have a VW Jetta and I got in 2000. The dealer I went to was in Amityville..they were really good. Now, I go to one in NJ that seems great too..
My car has been ok except for minor things..but I can't stand how every other day there's a recall on the car..I just got another notice in the mail...and I want to say a month ago, I just had something else repaired that was a recall...

Re: UGH! I HATE Legend (VW)!!!!!! LONG VENT
Sorry this is long. I had to vent too. Keep in mind that my car is a 1999 passat and only has 30k miles on it!
I have had problems with Donaldson's VW service dept too! Many things have gone wrong with my passat too. Things that should have been fixed in a day but I've had to bring my car back to them for the same problem many times!
Just a FEW examples:
when I bought the car- it pulled heavily to the right. Took it to the dealer to be looked at (the VERY next day) and they tell me I'm crazy and that the ccar's fine.... many arguements later I brought it to Smithtown VW (which is closer to my house anyway) and they tell me they have to take out my ENTIRE steerting column and redo it b/c it was off a notch and that I wasn't crazy.
Then I started having radio problems. It began to just be a lot of static but then ALL the chanels would not come in except for the Christmas station! Brought it back to Donaldsons (don't know why) and I had to return it to them 5 times to fix it. Each time they would say it was fixed, it would work untill I literally got home and stop working. BIG fight. Then the last time I took it in for the radio, I dropped it off the day before New Years Eve (2 years ago today actually!) and did not pick it up until Jan. 2nd since it wasn't going to be ready until late in the evening of the day I dropped it off and DH and I were going away for New Years. When we picked it up, I didn't notice anything funny about the car until I had to get something out of my back seat and I FOUND BABY TOYS IN MY CAR! I HAVE NO KIDS AND NEITHER DID MY FRIENDS! I also noticed that the car had 100 extra miles put on it since we had dropped it off to them. Here's where things get really nasty with me and them. They told me that I was lying! I woun't get into details but even though we had the toys in hand, showed them that the car had 100 extra miles since it was clocked in BY THEM it all my fault and imagination.
Stopped going there since it was obvious to me that they (someone) had 'borrowed' my car for the weekend and they didn't want to be responsible.
now here's the kick in the arse:
freak thing happened to my car. The back seat floor kept getting flooded. Right after I made an appt. with Smithtown VW my transmission went and I couldn't drive it to the dealer. We towed it, and Smithtown told us that the transmission went b/c there was a leak in the pollen filter that caused water to build up, run into my car and pool in the back seat which in turn emptied into the transmission computer and yadda yadda yadda, ruined my transmission. Well we were told that Smithtown doesn't honor my extended warrenty that I would have to go to Donaldson's to get it fixed if I didn't want to pay the $3000 or more it was going to take to fix the car- so..... back to Donaldsons for more fighting.
Then my alarm kept going off for no reason. Had to bring it to Donaldsons b/c of the warranty. had to return the car to the place 6 times and IT WAS MY VACATION@!
Alright, I better stop here. I think I have more to write about my problems. And yes, it is now my car- I just made the last payment yesterday. The car wouldn't have caused me so many problems if they would just fix it right the first time.
I feel your pain!

Re: UGH! I HATE Legend (VW)!!!!!! LONG VENT
OHMYGOSH, I leased my Jetta in the Bronx, and I had an issue, which I tried resolving, but they went out of business and I called VW directly, nothing, and now I haven't paid my lease termination fee and they want it, but I am soooo annoyed w/ them that I don't want to pay them. The other dealers wouldn't help me out either. I went to Riverhead Bay Motors, and then Donaldsons.

I had a VW Jetta too. Thankfully I was under warranty because my transmission went followed by a slew of other things. Since I drive a lot my warranty ended and now I was going to my mechanic and shelling out $$ to get the stupid thing fixed every other week. Finally this passed summer I had had enough. I brought it over to Nissan and traded it in for a 2004 Xterra I love my new car

Re: UGH! I HATE Legend (VW)!!!!!! LONG VENT
I have a 2003 Jetta...I've had to bring in to VW 3 times already for tansmission problems...
I've brought mine to VW of Bayside. Their service dept is in Great Neck. I made an appointment 3.5 weeks prior too, had the car at the dealership at 7:00 in am and was calling them at 5:00 to find out that the car hadn't even been looked at yet and that I should take my car back and bring it another day Are you kidding?
The damn car won't go above 55mph on the highway and revs as if I'm about to race Mario Andretti and you want me to bring the car back another day?????
Long story short...that was six months ago...the car was back in there two weeks ago for the same problem along with a section of dash lights not going on when its too cold out and the shocks in my truck so tight that it requires two people to open and close it...
My first car was a VW and I loved it...when I wanted a brand new car I looked into them bc of how much I loved my first car. Well they obviuosly do not make them like they use to...

Re: UGH! I HATE Legend (VW)!!!!!! LONG VENT
Frist I sympathize with your frustrations and I, if in your position, would be spitting mad too.
Now, I will say this. While 3 days is more than excessive, when performing a recall service, the dealer makes no money off of the repair - they get paid by the manufacturer, in this case VW. So most dealerships (at least most of the ones I know) will put off recall work to get in 'paying repairs.'
I would call VW corporate and alert them to the fact that your dealer is doing this to you. They can put a fire under Legend's @ss to get you on your way. In the future I would suggest going to a different dealership. Even for a recall.

Re: UGH! I HATE Legend (VW)!!!!!! LONG VENT
As a former service writer, I can only give you some advice. RAISE ALL HELL!!! It is the ONLY way you will get this done. Ask to speak to the service manager. Let him know your dissatisfaction and ask for the telephone number to corporate headquarters. Then march into sales and speak to your salesperson or better yet the manager and yell that you will never buy a VW again. I can guarantee you the car will be ready ASAP!! Its sad that you have to be mean like this, but it will get the job done. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I took the service manager's name but I didn't know what I'd say to them. The service people at VW just don't seem to care! UGH!
BTW, they still haven't called, though my car was probably going to be ready around 10-11am. I'm going to go call them.

Re: UGH! I HATE Legend (VW)!!!!!! LONG VENT
I've heard soooo many horror stories about Legend. My own cousin had to threaten them with getting the media involved before they would refund a $500 deposit that they tried to rip her off of.
So when I bought my 2003 Jetta, I got it at Sovereign in Hicksville. The service is a little better there. I had no problems with the recalls on the 2000 I had prior to this one. I would also try Donaldson's if it's not too far out for you.
