UGH!!! such a peeve!

So there's this guy at work who whenever he comes over to talk to my boss and she's on the phone, he starts chatting it up with me.

He's just one of those people that likes to start convos with people just so he can talk about himself. So he comes over and he's looking at some pictures I took that I have hanging in my cubicle (like scenic pics from vacations and stuff)

So this is how this convo went:

Him: 'Hey these are pretty nice shots... what kind of camera do you use?'

Me: 'It's a Canon Digital Rebel XT'

Him: 'Oh that's cool for starting out. I just bought myself the 5D Mark II and got a couple of new lenses.'

(side note: I used to work for a photography studio and shoot weddings/parties for 2 years... 'starting out'... go eff yourself)

Me: 'That's nice.'

Him: 'Yeah it's got so many more features and capabilities than the XT. You should look into upgrading yours.'

Me: 'I don't have that kind of money to upgrade.'

Him: 'Oh well that's too bad'.

Then he walks away into my bosses office.

I swear nothing pisses me off more than a one-upping assw*pes like that! It's like his sole purposes was to come over to my desk, let me know that he has more money than me and that my camera sucks a$$.... thanks doucheebag!

Ewwwwwwww *** is wrong with him? Tell him to go eff off with his camera... We all know yours is better well simply cause its YOURS haha

It's just him. This has nothing to do with just a camera, today was just an example of how this guy is and not just with me, but with everyone in the office.

He's just a cocky little pr*ck who thinks he's better than everyone else. No matter what you have for good news, his news is better (at least in his mind).

next time he comes by pretend you're on the phone.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh he is a 'one upper.' Someone who ALWAYS responds to someone else's story with their own 'more dramatic' or 'better' story. This guy should get bi*ch slapped twice though for STARTING the conversation and then trying to one up.

'Actually I'm pretty sure that a bad photographer can have a Markii and take a really crappy shot while an amazing photographer can produce an incredible photo with the Rebel you're saying isn't good enough.'

I'm not saying I am anything fabulous with my photography - I still have a lot to learn and would like to learn - but let's see some of your work buddy. Or maybe he's just one of those people that buy 'big expensive cameras' to make it seem like they know what they are doing? hmmmm

Please don't get me started on what the consumer DSLR market has done to photography!

You should ask to see some of his work. Start talking technical things with him...point out parts of his photos that you like or ask what f-stop he was shooting at...what lens...etc etc. See if he stutters.

I almost feel like buying the 5D Mark II is excessive for a consumer unless you are really really into photography or doing it for a living.

It's extremely excessive. Unnecessary even. That would be like a mom buying a Ferrari to take her kids to school in (that was not meant to be offensive!).
