ughh another food question

Ok guys I am getting sooo frustrated. I told you how I switched fred originally to science diet and he was refusing to eat it, so I was forced to switch him cold turkey to Wellness. Well he is STILL getting diarrehea from it. I dont knwo what to do

Should I switch again and if so to what food???

He has been on wellness for 10 days.

Im totally scared to call the vet because I feel like they are going to yell at me for switching cold turkey, but he was picking out all the new peicces and leaving the science diet when I mixed.

I had Casey on Merrick (it was just like Wellness) and she had diarrehea. I changed her to start eating Nutro for Large Breed Puppies (the have just puppy food also). She loves it and she stopped having diarrehea. Even though she had diarrehea with the Merrick, I still mixed it in with the new food.
This is the fourth type of food she has been on. And I think I have finally found one that she will remain on! Good Luck and let me know if you have any questions!

Are you feeding him anything else, like treats?

Which Science Diet did you buy? Did your vet. prescribe this particular Science Diet (there are different ones)?

Did he do an x-ray to see if there is a foreign object?

Have you been seeing your veterinarian regarding this particular problem?
Is this a parasite?

I think I remember you telling me that the vet checked everything out and your dog had a clean bill of health, but I just wanted to be sure.

Your vet won't be yell at you, but before doing anything, call them up and explain how long this problem has been going on, and ask them what to do.

There are certain prescription diets available for this problem as well, not sold from pet stores, only at vet. practices.

If your dog is not doing any better, you should contact your vet. for further recommendations.

I hope your doggie feels better

I think it's much more important to end the diarrhea than to worry about the vet getting mad at you. He should be more professional than that. As in people, diarrhea for too long is not good.
I changed my dog's medicine and am doing it gradually. He's not having any problems but he doesn't like the new food too much. I add things to his bowl to get him to eat it. His favorite are tiny ice chips. I also have Nutri-Stat left over from when he was really little. I rub that in the bottom of his bowl before adding the food. He loves the taste and he eats to get to the bottom. Also adding tiny, tiny pieces of his treat helps to get him started. I would't be so quick to keep changing food. He'll learn that if he doesn't like one food, you'll give him something else. He should know he eats what you give him - period.
I hope you resolve this problem. I know it's very upsetting.
Good luck.

Re: ughh another food question

ok so I called the vet and she was totally unconcerned about it, she said that he prob wasnt eating the science diet because the colors/shapes and hardness of it make it difficult for them to eat when they are puppies. Anyway she said since we had to switch him pretty much cold turkey that it could take up to 3 weeks for him to get used to it and she said to add a tablespoon of white rice to his food for a few days to bind him up.

Im so happy this is normal. She said if he is drinking lots of water and is still acting like himself then he is fine and to call her back on tues to see how he is (im taking him on next sat anyway for a booster)

Thats right. Whenever you switch brands no matter what the quality of food it is, the puppy will need time for his body and little belly to adjust to the different ingredients.

I got him the puppy all natural one. I think there were too many shapes and colors and he just didnt like it.
