ughhh FH's car

got impounded for speeding last night...does this seem right to you?? I have never heard of this before. He has police courtesy cards up the a#& and the cop didnt want to see them. He was going 66 in a 55 so thats 11 miles over the speed limit but to impound your car i think its redic. Also....it wasnt his car...its him mechanics. Maybe that made the difference?? Ughhh so sick to my stomach.

That doesn't sound right. Does he have car insurance??

yeah he has car insurance....i got no sleep last night...we got into a fight about it..he was coming home from work at like 10:30 and he didnt get home till 1:30!! Now he has no car until he gets it back from riverhead. it doesnt make sense to me. He got 3 tickets out of it to the cop slapped him with.

Re: ughhh FH's car

I thought cars only got impounded for speeding excessively or not having car insurance or a lot of unpaid fines, etc. Driving 11 miles over the speed limit doesn't sound right. What are the tickets for?

Re: ughhh FH's car

tickets are for speeding 11 miles over speed limit....he got hit with reckless driving b/c the cop saw him move into another lane quickly and he kind of swerved when he saw he was being pulled over...and inspection not done. The inspection was up last month on the 25th of March.

Hm, I guess for the reckless driving part. I dunno, I don't know any police officers. Sounds like he filled his ticket quota on your FH!

was this in Nassau County?
I had heard on the radio that for the next two weeks, Nassau County is cracking down on 'reckless' driving...

although it seems like the cop was definitely being an a-hole. trust me, DH & I have been there with the reckless driving thing that really wasnt...

This doesnt make sense To be impounded for speeding.

You said it wasnt his car - it was his mechanics. Maybe there were tickets on the car that he didnt know about.

i dont know...we will see today....he is going to have his mechanic get the car in riverhead today. FH's car is being fixed so his friend (mechanic) lent him his car.....ughh...nothing but headachs. ill update everyone... thanks girls!

the only reason i think they would do that is if he had unpaid tickets otherwise i dont think thats right

Re: ughhh FH's car

he said there was probably an insurance lapse on the car - doesn't matter if your fh has insurance, the car itself has to be insured and it wasn't his car.
also i think reckless driving is a misdemeanor, which could be the reason.

That makes sense.

Just like Joanna said, unless he had unpaid tickets or something he hasn't taken care of, then I don't think they should have impounded his car.

FH was doing 85mph on the belt (which is either a 50 or 55mph zone) and he got a crappppppppp load of tickets and points, but no impounding. He was about 30 miles over the limit. Not sure if the fact that hes in the coast guard had anything to do with it but getting impounded for 11 miles over doesn't sound normal.

ETA: oh and LOTS of penaltis $$$$$$$$$. I just got mad thinking of it again

Re: ughhh FH's car

it definitely sounds like it has more to do with the actual vehicle than your FH's driving.

although the cop was being a major jerk with the reckless driving ticket!
