UH OH!! I'm going to kill my FI!! I'm so embarrassed
Original post by JZNCK
In OCTOBER we went to my FI cousins wedding, and i assumed that he brought the card, with money as a gift for HIS cousin.. Well, I was at my FMIL's house and his cousin was there, at the end of the night before she left, she pulled me aside and asked me if we left a gift/card because some of her stuff was missing from the hall and she didn't see our gift there. UGGHH!!! THen I said, I'm pretty sure that jonathan left the card.. NO HE FORGOT IT!!!! All this time, and we didn't even give a gift!!! I'm so embarrassed.. It's his cousin, he told me we were giving them $300 I thought that was nice, so I agreed.> I didn't know that he wanted me to write the check.. what am I going to do?? what should I say to her.. I feel so bad.. we didn't even leave a card.. it did upset me though because she pulled ME aside to as ME.. Not my FH which is her cousin.. So now I feel like CRAP.. I have the check and the card, and I'm ready to send it, but what should I write in the card????? HELP
ETA: I didn't even think of the gift that day, i just assumed he had it.. i feel so DUMB

Saying some things were missing is a classic way of saying why didn't you leave anything. I hate that. It's so embarrassing! Just put in a note saying that you thought he had it, and he thought you had it, and sorry for the delay. Then let it go! Mistakes happen!

If I were you, I would have your FH call and explain the situation, since it is his cousin . . .
Why are us women always doing the dirty work for our men?
In all seriousness, the truth is the safest way to go with this . . . good luck- let us know how things turn out!
And don't worry about it!!!!!!

I also want to say that we were in a similar situation with our e-party with A family member of my FH that would DEFINITELY NOT come empty handed. We ended up not getting anything. We called his sister to ask, explained that if he hadn't left anything we didn't care, but we were worried that something was stolen! It ended up he put his card on the gift table and it never ended up with us at the end of the night.
I do not agree that this is just away of asking why someone didn't leave anything.
I know for us we were sincerely concerned that something was swiped . . . I don't think it is EVER EASY to ask a question like that and it is ALWAYS awkward, but there are plenty of times when gifts 'disappear', especially at a big affair. My own cousin could not find a card that he had received at his wedding at the end of the night. It's unfortunate, but all too often, a reality!
Good Luck

chalk it up to a lesson learned...before we were married...all the checks for his friends weddings were my account...with my signiture...its just one of the roles the woman plays...
