Not usually. How long is it? Does it say? If it's 5 hours. there is definitely a cocktail hour.

Re: uhm. what does this mean
sometimes invitations just come worded that way - its less formal than 'reception to follow.' it's probably more of a guideline of what to wear than what food will be there. does the invitation look somewhat less formal than other wedding invites you have seen? that should be your clue.
if it's a formal wedding invite, then yes, it might mean no cocktail hour.

Re: uhm. what does this mean
That doesn't necessarily mean no CH--some invites are just worded that way.

Re: uhm. what does this mean
It might add the CH in it...
For our reception cards, we did Cocktail Hour @ 6:30 Dinner & Dancing to follow.....

Re: uhm. what does this mean
My reception card said 'Cocktails, Dinner and Dancing to Follow'
If its 5 hours- then there's def. a CH...if its less then probably not

Re: uhm. what does this mean
We said 'cocktails, Dinner and Dancing' on ours. Where I'm from they don't have cocktail hour so I don't think people will know that there will be hor douves before hand, it will be a suprise.

I think that too, 8:30 is a little late to start cocktail hour. I would say there probably isn't one either.

Re: uhm. what does this mean
well there was a cocktail hour.... lol... I have to say I was not impressed by the cocktail hour, the place was absolutley beautiful, the room was great as well. the bride had her dress made by kenneth poole himself, he designed it,,, how awsome is that, she took a job working at a bridal salon met the designer and he made her a dress. I will post picutres monday....

Re: uhm. what does this mean
My friend did 'dinner and dancing to follow' on her invite and she said it was just another way to say reception to follow- she had a cocktail hour. She felt it sounded better but i think its just personal preference.

I would guess that there probably IS a cocktail hour.
Our cocktail hour doesn't start until 8:30 p.m., our reception will end at 1:30 a.m.
