LOL, I know FH and I were hysterical when we were filling out that questionnaire..Then when we went to the host couples house, they were like 'oh you were that couple laughing during focus'....the Church has a big set to ask questions like that!

LOL Hubert...I did this on Sunday. of course my priest knows us very well, so it was kind of funny, but yeah, some of those questions are FUNKY! LOL

I loved 'are you related' umm....NO, this is NY not West Virginia!

and 'do you have any medical problems or diseases that will prevent you from performing the act of love after your married' ....umm, considering it didn't stop me LAST NIGHT, I think we'll be fine after the wedding!

(j/k- I have a very good friend from WV, and I tease him about inbreading relentlessly. It is actually a lovely state)

One of the questions they asked me seperatly was did I ever have professional counciling. I did see a cousler when my parents were divorced. They had to do all follow up with me on it. CRAZY!

if the church finds anything wrong with your answers (specifically for questions relating to mental health problems) they can advice you to seek counseling before permitting you to be married in the church- so yes, they can stop you from being married by the church.

I don't think those lesbianism questions are normal.. I wasn't asked anything like that...I think that is WAY above and beyond even what the church should be involved in.

Some of them are funny questions, but they all have to be seriously asked because the Priest needs to know if there are any impediments to marriage. If any of these impediments exist it might render a person unqualified to enter into marriage validly. (like if the person is under duress b/c they are being forced b/c they are pregnant-not mentally capable or mature to know what they are doing)

If something goes wrong in the future and someone requests an annulment, your Priest will be held accountable and questioned whether or not these questions were asked. For a marriage to be valid in the Catholic church the couple has to meet certain criteria, unlike a civil marriage where it is mostly a simple consent.

I really liked the 'Are you related' question - we all laughed at that one

Yeah, the questions are a little weird, but I guess some of the common reasons that people get divorced are because of affairs and not being able to have children. So I guess the church is trying to get any issues out in the open.

When we went for our marriage license, the form did ask if we were related...

Yeah, they asked us those questions too, we were like 'huh?'

But I do sort of understand why they ask them. With such a high divorce rate, they are trying their best to avoid possible conflict BEFORE getting married and/or try to get counseling for any issue they may see as a possible problem in the future or a basis for divorce.

When they asked us if we wanted to have children we both said 'NO' I'm sure they were like 'huh?' So I guess we were even!!!
