Some of them are funny questions, but they all have to be seriously asked because the Priest needs to know if there are any impediments to marriage. If any of these impediments exist it might render a person unqualified to enter into marriage validly. (like if the person is under duress b/c they are being forced b/c they are pregnant-not mentally capable or mature to know what they are doing)
If something goes wrong in the future and someone requests an annulment, your Priest will be held accountable and questioned whether or not these questions were asked. For a marriage to be valid in the Catholic church the couple has to meet certain criteria, unlike a civil marriage where it is mostly a simple consent.
I really liked the 'Are you related' question - we all laughed at that one
Does the Priest get fired if the marriage doesn't work out and the couple needs an annulment?
I know this sounds flippant, but I'm serious about the question.

Re: Um.......***???!!!!!!!
We answered similar questions but our priest was smart enough not to ask us questions whether or not we were gay or whether or not I was pregnant...I mean logic dictates that some questions just need not be asked...

No, because it is not always the Priest's fault if a marriage doesn't work out (people lie, etc.). But the Priest has to do his job, he has to evaluate whether a couple can be validly married by the Church. A couple forms a Covenant with God when they enter marriage, it is a sacrament, for the sacrament to be valid, certain things must be present and to the best of his ability, the Priest has to ensure this.

I understand that it's serious, but I wanted to know if there are any ramifications to the Priest.

hmmm... I wonder. Thank goodness I was never asked any of those questions. I could see me just writting all the wrong answers to see what would happen. LOL I wonder what they would do?

There were separate meetings, I'm sure her FH was asked separately.
I wasn't asked this though...

That's so strange. That makes me happy that I am not getting married in the church. I would refuse to answer them.

WHAT?????????!!! this doesn't sound right....
I was not asked questions like that at all... or even close. they did ask us separately some questions like: Are you entering this marriage by your own will (i.e. not being coerced into a marriage) Have you ever been ordained a nun (priest for FH) And the others were so basic, I didn't mind answering them and they all made sense to me why they asked.... the rest were things like where and when did you receive your other sacraments, etc. etc.
Those questions don't sound right at all.... definitely not the norm in my opinion. Perhaps you have some wacky priest or something... again, doesn't sound right....

Re: Um.......***???!!!!!!!
Wow. That is a very invasive line of questioning. I don't know how I would have reacted personally. But DH recently joined a fraternal organization for reasons relating to burial benefits for us and I have to fill out a medical form that was originally published in the early 1900s that asks me how many abortions I have had. Now I havent had any, nor do I judge those who do, but I was so tempted to write 'I ran out of fingers to count on.'

yeah, we got asked the same questions and we were giggling too. you can't keep a straight face when asked questions liked this and it's even worse when you're talking to a priest or deacon.

Yeah they must have asked us in 10 different ways if we were related. I wanted to be like, yes, I like to live by the old 'if you can't keep it in your pants keep it in the family' motto
