Last night FH told me something FMIL told him recently -- the day before our wedding they were invited to another wedding and they are going to it! This person isn't even very close to them, because I had never heard of this person before and they aren't inivited to out wedding (not even listed on FMIL's C list!).
FMIL and FFIL will be missing the entire day before our wedding, and we have lots of family showing up that weekend and I could imagine that the day before the wedding there will be lots of last minute stuff going on! FH and I feel like they shouldn't even feel obligated to go to this other wedding -- after all, they have a pretty valid excuse ('well my son is getting married the NEXT DAY and we have about ten million things to deal with!'). And they are going to be dancing and celebrating the day before our wedding -- so what, are they going to be too tired at our wedding to dance too much?
Thanks for reading my long vent! FH is just as annoyed as I am! Can you imagine if your mom told you that the day before the biggest day of your life she was going to someone else's event and was going to be missing for 8 hours?

Re: Unbelievable story from FMIL! VENT/RANT
this would not bother me at all but that is just my opinion. i actually dont think fh's parents will be helping us with much before the wedding and the way I see it is everything will already be done and it will be sa day to relax before they wedding. as far as them being too tired to dance well thats a little redicoulis (sp) the wedding ends at 9 they have plenty of time to recoup JMO

Maybe they think you won't want them around anyway the day before? Hmm that sounds a bit odd

I would definitely be frustrated. They should be around at such a pivotal time. You may need them to entertain or to help with last minute things. Also, the RD is typically the night before. Oi!

Re: Unbelievable story from FMIL! VENT/RANT
if you were planning on doing the RD that night then thats messed up. Are they planning on paying for the RD? is so then maybe the plan on doing it another night. I had my rehearsal dinner 2 days before the wedding.
If you do your RD on another night and they still plan on going to the wedding the day before yours then dont worry. Honestly there wont be much for them to do the day before. Not only that but you will be busy with your own things and honestly you probably wouldn't see them the day before regardless, unless it was your RD.
Most brides leave the last day to relax and they spend the day getting their mani and pedi done. Then try to finish up other things such as packing for the HM and if you stay at a hotel night of wedding also packing a bag for that. Unfortunately i had a few things to do, what should've taken a short period of time took me 6 hours bc of the horrible weather day before my wedding and all the traffic. I woke up and soon after had to go pick up my dress, shoes and veil. Most will have this done though before. After that i had to come home finish up on things, and also get mani and pedi. I didnt see my IL's the day before and there wasnt anything really that ppl could help me out with, i had to pick up the things myself and dh took care of a few small things. Plus the wedding they are attending ends at 9pm so they'll be fine for the next day.
However, you should talk to them and say that they should've asked you first if you are having your RD the night before, bc if you were planning to then how can they say yes to another wedding if they have to attend the RD. Im guessing when they made their decision they completely forgot about a RD. Have your FH talk to them if you're not comfortable to do so.

Maybe they feel as though they would be 'in the way' if that makes any sense. Some people get like that.
Is your rehearsal dinner that night?
I understand about her feeling 'in the way' but with all this family coming in, you would think she might want to entertain some of them or something -- keep them out of the way too!
We didn't even schedule the dinner yet. She decided that since nothing had been scheduled yet on that day that it was free -- she never even asked what the plan was, and apparently they have already told this other person they are coming to that wedding. The other person's reception is supposed to end at 9, so obviously having any sort of family dinner the night before my OWN wedding is not going to happen! My parents are traveling in from another state and we are having the wedding in FMIL and FFIL's hometown on LI, and so they have sort of been acting as the 'hosts' and now they are disappearing! FH thinks it is really messed up.
Yeah, thinking that day is 'free' is crazy. I'd be a bit perturbed . . . . especially b/c the wedding is on LI because of their family.
Ugh.

Maybe you FH can have a discussion with his parents? Explain to them that it is important to you guys to have them there? The wedding people should understand.
