this is REALLY long but please PLEASE read and help me figure out what to do!! i'm beyond upset...

over a year ago we looked at 6 RHs and finally decided on beach club estate...it was small, quaint, and the part that really sold us is (please don't laugh) the fact that it had a hidden 4-lane bowling alley that you could rent out for an extra hour after your reception.

this morning, a new 08 bride posted that she just booked at the beach club...and she made a comment that they are completely renovating the whole place.

i was SHOCKED!! i had heard nothing about any of this. so i called them and it's true...they are changing the entire layout of the grounds, re-doing the rooms, and they are GETTING RID OF THE BOWLING ALLEY. it states in my contract that the bowling after the reception is an option. that was the selling point for us.

ok so some of you might think the bowling thing is cheesy, but i want you to think of something special between you and FH that you've shared during your relationship. maybe you both love theme parks, maybe you watched your favorite movie on your first date, maybe you both love a certain sport...now imagine you found a hall that somehow incorporated that special thing into your wedding and you booked your hall over others b/c of that thing, and were looking forward to it for the past year. that's what the bowling was for us. we were both on our high school bowling teams (please, hold back your laughter), he used to come watch my matches after school the first year we were dating, over the past 9 years we've been on several couple league bowling teams...we were so excited about bowling after the wedding in our dress and tux. i thought it would be SO awesome for pictures too.

not to mention, i also booked this place b/c i loved the layout of the grounds and the way everything looked. i was told today that the grounds will be completely different, and that the place won't be finished until the first week of may...ONLY A FEW WEEKS BEFORE MY WEDDING!! so i can't even see what it's actually going to look like until then!! what if we HATE it?! they said we can come in and look at their plans...but a few drawings isn't going to give me the feel of what it's actually going to look like.

i'm sure a few of you are thinking that i should be happy, b/c the place will be all new and it will probably be really pretty...but it's not what we booked. we booked it b/c it was old fashioned and DIFFERENT. now i don't KNOW what it will be like.

AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN TELL US!!!!!!! i found out from someone on here...and when i called they said they have already started renovating. so obviously they have been planning it for a while before now!! were they going to wait until i showed up on my wedding day and FREAKED OUT that it wasn't the same place?!?!?! i am SOOOOOO upset about that!! how could they not inform me earlier, when i have booked my wedding there almost 2 years in advance, and am expecting it to be the way it was?!?!??!?!?!

i have been envisioning my wedding for 2 years at this place. now i don't know what to picture.

what would you do? would you just suck it up and have your wedding there, not knowing what it will look like? or would you see if you could get out of the contract and try to find another hall at short notice?

please, i have been crying about this on and off all day...this is such a big deal to me, i need advice!!!

I would first ask why they didn't tell their clients that they were going to renovate the RH. Also I would explain that this was a selling point for you and see what you can negotiate.

I wouldn't freak out- I'm sure it's still a beautiful place to have your wedding.

OMG THATS TERRIBLE!!! I would be sooooooooooo mad!!! Honestly, call your BM!!! Tell that the bowling alley was a selling point for you! Maybe they'll reconsider their design....ya never know....you need to at least tell them! That really suucks though Jeanette! I'm sorry!

You have every right to be pissed.. I would be FLIPPING!!!!!
If you have to change your RH cos you dont like which would suck!!!, and they better give you your money back!!!! Im sure you could find somewhere that you like and since its a fairly close wedding, you might be able to get a better deal?
I dont know.. I hope you like it.. But I would def try and get something off of your total price for changing everything without telling you!

I dunno if this is going to help, but the Glen Cove Mansion has a bowling alley in it. Maybe you can spend your wedding night there and go bowling there? They also have a lounge too. If you really want, maybe your wedding party could rent out rooms as well. HTH

thanks for the suggestion!! the only problem is that beach club is in ronkonkoma which is far from glen cove, and we already have rooms blocked at a hotel near the hall.

aaaw...that really stinks. It's like all that planning out the window and now you have to start from scratch. You should ask for them to throw something in as compensation.

We're bringing our guests to a bowling alley after our wedding Party attire and all! But that would have been fun to do it at the same place. My guests are more excited about the bowling than the actual wedding.

you are going to a bowling alley after? maybe that is what we could do...only thing is, usually on weekends or holidays midnight bowling is popular...how do you make sure you're going to get lanes for everyone to bowl??

Hey, I believe things happen for a reason. Your lucky that you found out now, so you have the option to change your RH if you choose to. That poor on Bridezillas found out days before her wedding.

If it were us, and we were told the Met renovated and it is projected to be completed 3 weeks before our wedding, I would:

Look in to Suffolk's catering laws and consult an attorny to see if I grounds to cancell the event with a 100% reimbursment of any monies paid to the wedding.

If we were entitle to money already paid, I would look in to other options, before I went to meet with my banquet manager so I would be well informed of what my options are...

I'm sorry this is happening to you! I don't think you are being silly at all. You could incorporate the bowling thing the night of the rehearsal dinner! That way it will still be part of the wedding and you are still able to share your special memories!

And they said we could reserve lanes in advance. They also mentioned food and drink packages if you're interested (i guess like for the kiddie bday parties). They said to call the month before the wedding.

First...I am sooooo going to laugh that you guys are bowling geeks... (You know I love you)

Okay...on to more serious business...I told myself when I started planning this wedding. I'm going to do my research, make an educated decision and stick to it NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. 'It is what it is'...so they say! Unfortunately, this is yours and Steve's crapppy road block. I TRULY understand why you chose your RH and why it was special to you.

BUT...most importantly...Your wedding is going to be perfect! No matter where your wedding is. No matter who does or doesn't show up...If the limo is ugly or the wrong one...or your flowers aren't exactly as you pictured them. Unfortunately, if the catering hall isn't exactly as you planned...ugh

I've met both you and Steve and just from what I've read on these boards...you guys are perfect for eachother...that is all that matters...this RH business is small stuff compared to that.

My last bit of advice...make sure you get EVERY possible upgrade you can get. They owe you and they owe you BIG. I would be more than happy to come with you guys to help with with the haggeling (sp?)...I live 10 minutes from there...

I am so sorry!!!! It's not silly at all...we all have reasons for choosing our RHs and im sure all of us would be really upset if it suddenly changed without notice. I think you should go see what the plans will look like. That is the first step. Hopefully you go and absolutely adore it! Then maybe you will feel better. Otherwise i would see if there is a bowling alley nearby where you can go afterwards. Im sorry i cant be more help

hahaha it IS!!! we wanted jillians (or dave and busters) so that there would be more activities....but there weren't enough lanes....and Strikes in new hyde park is closed for renovations. So we stuck with a normal bowling alley.
