So my coworker got married last August and never sent out thank you notes. Its coming on a year, and he told me today that he sent out his thank you's a couple of weeks ago. Wanna know the catch? He said he didn't send any out to us (his coworkers) because he sees us all the time and can thank us in person. And by the way, after he said that he didn't even then say 'thank you for the gift'. And then he says that when we wrote the notes, he didn't even mention the gifts in the note, but instead wrote to people updating them on his life, career, etc. Is that kind of rude?

Re: Unbelieveable ettiquete
Extremely rude! You have to send thank-yous to everyone who gave you a gift/attended the wedding. Can't just pick and choose not to bc you see people everyday. As if!!

Yeah, and he's a hippocrite too. So I was telling him how my FH came up with this computer program that has our guest list, and how it calculates how many invites, STD magnets, favors, thank yous need to be sent out. I said that as people RSVP, we plug it in, and if someone RSVPs 'No', then it subtracts the amount of guests and the amount of Thank yous that need to be written. But of course that is with the assumption that people who RSVP 'No' won't send a gift. Of course if they send a gift I would write a thank you. So he asks, 'But what if they say No and send a gift? You're not going to write a thank you?' Well, we came and gave a gift, and you didn't send a thank you, so how can you ask that of us (even if he misunderstood)! Some nerve!

Re: Unbelieveable ettiquete
His wife must be just as rude.....b/c SHE should have at least taught him the correct ettiquette to send a Thank you.....I dont care who the hell you are or how often I see you.......
That is equivalent to have someone not send in their response card, b/c when they see you, they'll tell you.
OK ...Now I am heated.....

Nope, actually she sent thank you's to her side of the family 2 months after the wedding!! They decided to do them separately, so she would do the ones for her side, and he would do the ones for his side!

As much as I made DH write out his family's thank you's (especially the ones to relatives in Poland, because I don't speak or write Polish) I would never take it for granted that he would send them. I would be horribly embarrassed if he was my husband. I think somehow it is going to reflect negatively upon the bride, even though it was his responsibility.

Horrible. But, it happens. Four years ago a bunch of us attended a co-workers wedding (a woman!) and no one ever got a thank you for any of the gifts we gave. Can you imagine?

Okay, so this is funny: He told me this is what his wife said to him: 'If you get your thank you's out by August, you're a busy scientist. If you get them out after August, you're a jerk' First of all, he's a first year grad student (I'll be a 4th year by the time I get married and have to write thank yous, way more engrossed in work for my thesis).
Second of all, you had all this leisure time to start learning the banjo, but you can't write like 5 thank you's a day? It would take at most 3 weeks if he did that. I hate when people use the 'busy scientist excuse' for why they don't do things. I'm a scientist in training and I never use that excuse. If I don't do something, I'll be honest: its because I'm lazy!!

A NY Bride.....how sad. I know people say not to stress when people don't send thank you cards but there is absolutely no excuse. If they had the time to open the card...cash the check, deposit the money. Time could be made for a T.Y. ...even if the pics did not come in from the photographer. Hallmark sells thankyous! I can not stand for lack of manners or common sense. I feel your pain on this one.
