A couple was set to marry Saturday at DH's parish around the corner from us. The organist (who did our wedding music) told us yesterday that the bride showed up all dressed with her bridesmaids and father in the limo, ready to get hitched. The grooms whole family was there, and the father of the groom walked out of the church to tell her that he went home, and she might as well too because he wasn't coming back.
His family was Mormon, she is Roman Catholic, and they talked him out of marrying her. After he told her, the grooms whole family exited out a side door and left.
They had to go on with the reception because it was paid for, and everyone that wasn't at the church was going to show up. The brides mother said it was 'good riddance to bad rubbish' party. The bride was devastated.

Wow that is terrible. I couldn't imagine my FI family talking him out of marrying me.... I feel so bad for her and her family...His family is just plain TRASH!

Unbeleivable......simply unbeleivable. You'd think that a loving couple would be willing and able to find a better resulotion to their differences than him not showing up for the f'in wedding

I wish the father of the bride would have beat the ever loving !@# out of the groom's father for doing that.

Misty: I heard that the brides brother went to their apt and changed the locks right away so he couldnt go home or get his stuff. Not quite as satisfying as beating the crap out of him, but its somethign to know that he had to find his own change of clothes and stuff.

OMG- I am sure she was devestated than, but I think her worst nightmare would have been to have this man as a husband, and his family as in-laws. She is so much better off. Good riddance!!!!!

Stef...good! At least a teeny bit of satisfaction. I hope the brides family sues the crap out of him for every penny they were forced to spend. What a complete wimp!! How do you get all the way to the actual WEDDING DAY before doing this??
I heard that the grooms mother got a sudden 'asthma' attack at the rehearsal dinner the night before also....just as the groom was supposed to sign the marriage license.
How terrible.

I dont really know the whole story but the idea that the guys family talked him out of it does not fly with me. He is an adult and I dont care what his family says, the responsiblity lies with him. If he was that religious, he would not have been living with this girl in the first place.

I feel so bad for this poor girl...but she is probably better off without him. He sounds like a complete a$$....waiting until the wedding day and putting her through this. I wish her all the best. Hopefully one day she will find a real man who will be true and loving to her.

Ouch.. That's harsh.
I have a good friend who is Mormon. I went through their seven discussions.. a sort of learning their ways and stuff meetings..
I was curious.. this was years ago. They are dead set on marrying one of their 'own'. Catholic is a real opposite from Mormonism. How sad for her...and for him. How shameful of the family to be blind to the happiness of their child.
I didn't join because they didn't like my dragon, my double pierced ears or sex before marriage.. oh and no woman may pray for a sick child without the supervision of a brother.. PFFT!
My friend.. i found out.. had interest in me. When I said I refused to be baptized in their faith.. he was very very harsh with me... down right mean and nasty. Good riddance is right!
