So I recently got engaged September of 2012 and I really want to start planning my wedding but I have no idea where to begin and I'm all over the place! LOL.

I fell in love with Jericho Terrace's 'DOME' room when I went to a bridal showcase there but I don't want to just hop on the first place I see. My fiance and I are paying for this wedding by ourselves and lets just say we don't have that much money to begin with so we are waiting for 2015ish to get married so we don't have to feel pressured or rushed and regret this and have enough time to save so we can have a decent wedding.

Anyone have any rant/raves about Jericho? Was also going to check out Leonards. I went and checked out the sand castle but it just wasn't my cup of tea. The women first off told me to come in while there was a party going on so I couldn't even see the room I had to watch a video of it instead and she just didn't buy me with the whole ' let me call my manager and speak in a total different language and act like I'm asking him to give u a discount'.. Maybe she did,or maybe she didn't but I was still love struck on Jericho Terrace.. Maybe even a little more after that visit.

Anyone else having to pay for your own wedding or had to, have any advice?

Sometimes you just know exactly what you want and get the venue right on the first visit! I fell in love with the first one I visited too, but we went to others and ended up booking the 7th one we saw because that was The One.

Our parents are helping but we still have a chunk to pay ourselves. Definitely try to get married in the off-peak season to save and do either a day wedding or a Friday night. Saturdays are always going to be more money. Offer vendors a cash deposit and most of them will waive the tax!

FH and I are paying for pretty much the whole wedding. My mom is helping out with the DJ and with the centerpieces.

We are getting married on a Saturday night in December of 2014 (12-13-14 to be more exact :D) and we got a wonderful deal at our venue. We actually ended up getting a 'special' deal that they were promoting for 2013 brides. We saw three venues in total and The Mansion at West Sayville (where we booked) was the 2nd one we saw. FH and I both fell in love with it and had a moment. We knew it was The One. We still saw the third venue because it was the next day and we didn't think it was enough time to cancel without being rude. Such a waste of time and really solidified our love for The Mansion.

Definitely try offering paying cash because they'll waive the tax. Make sure you always get the price with the tax and service charge INCLUDED in your quote. The 3rd place we looked at quoted me $82pp and then when we got there it was $82pp++ which brought it up to almost $110pp. My mistake for not asking.

I would try to book your venue sooner rather than later so you can at least lock in the 2013 rates which will definitely be less than 2015 rates since they're going up all the time. Just after I booked my venue they went back to their normal pricing.

Have you thought about doing one of the package deals? Sometimes they can really be beneficial. From the places you've listed it looks like you want to stay near Nassau County. If thats the case try Stewart Manor Country Club. Its gorgeous and they have an all inclusive deal!

Good luck! Congratulations on your engagement!!! Enjoy the planning!!

FH is in the fire dept and they have a function there every year... The first time I went there I was breathless, esp looking at that ceiling! The food is always great and people always love Weddings there! I've heard it's affordable too.
If you love it, maybe look at a few and if you don't love anything else just book it!! We booked the 2nd place we saw

we waited 2 years and it's totally worth it because it makes planning easier too.

although you can get good prices for 9 months out, there was not enough time for us to save doing this.

we are paying for about 60% of our wedding including honeymoon, so time HELPS!

we just set a certain amount to save monthly and started being more frugal, saving change, etc etc.

We are also paying for a large portion of our wedding. I recommend you go to a few other venues before you check out JT to get an idea of what the price comparison may be.
We also love the dome room but learned it was too small for what we are trying to accommodate. The BM we spoke to there was great, but definitely a 'sales person'. He gave us a whole tasting and everything right there on the spot, showed us everything, then told us the price per person. We were a bit disappointed--didn't think it would be so high given the month we are getting married. Also, he wouldn't budge much, but was willing to throw in a suckling pig--disgusting haha.
Do some shopping around..we went with the last place we ever thought we would!

JT is great I am getting married there and if you are open with the day and time you are willing to have your wedding it saves you money. We are doing a day wedding and we are paying under 10k for our wedding. Our bm is Chad he is awesome anything we want, any questions we have he answers them. The food there is amazing. We had a tasting and it wasn't made special like some places do they literally took dishes that were being served at a wedding going on in the room next to the one we were sitting it. It was the best food out of all the venue we went to. We fell in love with Lands End but the price did not work for us. We haggled and they just wouldn't work with us so we went on what felt like an endless search.

Sand Castle is expensive and yes they speak in Greek but if you tell them your budget they usually work with you.. Thats what they did for me. I told them how much I was willing to spend ($100 p/p) and they showed me which days they could do that price for. And that price included tax/grat

Def shop around and be flexible with the date. We actually had a Sunday wedding at the venue of our first choice. Budget and dont go crazy w/ tons of extras. It's easy to go overboard LOL We had a few personal touches and everyone raved about our wedding.

I have been to a wedding at Leonards. It was OK. The cocktail rm we were in was small and they ran out of utensils and plates!! It turned me off a little.

My FH and I are paying for the wedding 100% ourselves.

It is stressful, we have two children and i lost my job due to being put on bedrest with my son. I actually wanted a backyard wedding and was told by parenst that it would be offensive to my friends (most of whom just did the justice of peace and a few in their parents backyard). Then we looked at a central park wedding and then renting out a small thai resturant on a friday afternoon, however once we factored in our friends with significant others we were over capicity. Thus leaving us with the option of a more traditional wedding.

We made a budget and tried to stick with it and have raised it even still; however its a lot less than what most brides ($9000). We decided to go with a hall that allows our friends who dont drive to be their without stressing about getting back home late at night and one with a price we could afford. I have read the reviews on here that say negative things about my hall, however i bet many halls have had a few brides who werent pleased with how their day turned out. Plus i have 3 friends who also recently got married there as well and had a great affair.

We are planning for 150 people on a saturday in April. Winter would have given a better price but I wanted a chance at having an outdoor ceremony.

Wish you the best of luck.

Re: undecided

I got engaged in December 2012, just recently and we are waiting until 2014, some people say its such a long time, but it makes sense for us!
I am immigrating to Canada where my fiance is from so to pay for that and a wedding in the same year it is tough..that being said..i saw 4 venues, at the 3rd Crest Hollow I knew and i got a great price for still booking into 2012 for 2014.
we are keeping the ocst down by having an afternoon wedding..it is still june a busy bridal month but we got it for 60 a persoN! and i loved the place..
we also booked most of our vendors except the florist..that it was nice to get the big checks out of the way so i dont need to come back and forth to NY so much just to hear and see a DJ..

PS FM me if you want some Dj quotes I absolutely loved who went with and their prices are great!
