I would just call them and tell them. They aren;t the ones paying for the wedding you are. If you don;t say anything it can get pretty expensive!

your going to have to call them. Tell them the room only holds a certain amount of people and unfortunately they can not bring a guest.

Be prepared for people to be upset though. I understand where you are coming from (because I am having a limited guest list too) but I can also understand why an adult would assume they were able to bring a guest.

I would tell them you only reserved 1 seat or however many seats for them. Unfortunately you would not be able to accommodate more than that.

Knowing my family someone will try to be slick and bring extra guest. So what I did is put the amount of seats reserved on my RSVP's. Once I get them back my mom will call everyone to confirm that they are coming and the amount of people that are allowed to come.

On the day of anyone who brings uninvited guests, the uninvited will be asked to leave and if the invited guest has a problem with it, they can see themselves to the exit also.

My aunt will be the hostess, we really don't care about hurting anybody's feelings the day of because by this point the invite and the telephone call would have let them know how many seats are reserved.

I would call them and let them know...We had to call someone and while it was uncomfortable, it had to be done. (this person responded +2 when they were the only one invited)

ITA with what all the girls said above. i've seen invitations that actually listed out the # of seats that are provided per guest, but since you sent it out already, i'd make a friendly phone call and just blame it on the hall and say that it can't accommodate that many guest and unfortunately, they can not invite extra guests.

if they are true friends, they should understand.

I would seriously just call them and explain to them that you only have room/budget for a certain amount of people and you want a more intimate sort of wedding with people that you and FH know.

You are definitely going to get some negative feedback from this and possibly be prepared for one of your guests to say 'Well I'm just not going to come'. The people that love you and want to be there to celebrate with you will understand the situation and still attend the wedding.

But you have to say something. You don't want all these people randomly showing up the day of and you don't have room.

oh man... you think people would understand wedding invitations at this point, its 2010. if it says Mr. John Doe and Guest, your invited with a guest. if it doesnt say 'and guest' your not allowed to bring someone! how rude.

if its family i would have either your mom or FH mom call the person and tell them its not allowed. and if its a friend, politely call and say you think theres been a misunderstanding. You really don thave to get in detail.
