My mother and I attended my sister's sister-in-law's shower on Saturday. They played a few games and after every one, my mom said, 'do you want this at your shower?' She wanted me to give her ideas of the kinds of things I like and don't like. I think that the opening of the gifts can be veryyyyy boring, so I definitely want my guests to have some games to entertain them - but I am sick of bridal bingo. Is there anything like that she could do instead? Anything you girls had at yours that you would recommend? Other games for the gift opening and other times would be appreciated as well.

wasn't really guest involvement, but at my shower my BM's had a game where a timer went off at random times throughout the gift opening and each time the timer went off... whoever's gift was being opened got a prize.

maybe have your guests where beads around their neck, or closepins on their shirts (something related to your theme) and then you could choose a specific word (wedding related of course) and whoever says it during the opening of the gifts has a close pin taken away from them or a necklace and the person who heard them say it gets to keep their necklace/closepin (or the moh gets to keep those taken away from people)
in the end whoever has the most left around their neck or on their shirts gets a prize

not really an opening the gifts game - but as many of you know - dave & i are ga ga over movies....
the girls did a 'famous movie couples' game...where they'd give a name & you have to come up with their match....(johnny & baby, paulette & johnny, princess bride couple - blanking on their names) - but you get the point.

One game was Getting to know the bride and groom.
Here where the questions:
1) What is the bride's middle name? 2) Where did the couple have their 1st date? 3) Where are they going on their honeymoon? 4) If the bride were at home what would she be doing? (multiple choice question) 5) What was the bride's 1st impression of the groom?(multiple choice question) 6) What month was the bride born in? (multiple choice question) 7) the bride likes to...(multiple choice question) 8)What type of home would she prefer? (multiple choice question) 9) What shape diamond does the bride have? 10) Where did the groom propose to the bride?
Then the person with the most right answers got a prize.

Love it! The one I was just at did a 'how well do the soon-to-be newlyweds know each other' - where the groom was asked questions and the bride had to answer them there, to see if they matched.... I like that too but I don't know if my FH would answer the types that were on there! (because he would know that they would say the answers in front of his family at mine at the shower!)

thanks! It will definitely keep your guests busy. You can make a packet and have them ready for everyone at their seat and they can start filling everything out as they get there and before or even while you open your gifts.

We had some really cute games at my shower this weekend.
My favorite was: my MOH(sister) printed pictures of famous men and Fh. then she folded them up, put one each in a balloon and half-inflated the balloons. there was the corresponding number of ballons on each table to how many ppl were sitting there. My sister todl each person to take a balloon and pop them and ONE balloon at each table had FH's picture and that person won the centerpiece. If you don't have centerpieces, you can use prizes. I thought it was cute and she used funny pics of FH. Everyone seemed to really like it.

My girls got all of the moms, aunts and even grandma involved. They got a poster of a fireman and cut out bow ties. The guests were blind folded, turned and then they had to pin the bow tie on the fireman. I was shocked at how willing they were to participate, but they enjoyed it. Another game we played was guessing which piece of lingerie came from which bridesmaid, and they each had their own personality twist to each piece. Something that all the guests enjoyed was how well do you know your spouse...but instead of using jello shots (which is what we did for the last bridal shower) the girls put bubblelicious gum in my mouth for each wrong answer. The pieces are huge so by the third question I couldn't speak. Everyone was listening very carefully to every answer, especially since my fh has a sick sense of humor and gave some funny responses. It was easy to be wrong.

my BM did this at mine and everytime i got a question wrong about FH i had to put a piece of gum in my mouth lol

At the last one I attended they played pocketbook scavenger hunt - each table was given a list of items that had been assigned a point value. they used this to determine which table went to the buffet first but you could break it down to individuals - or the one where each table has a roll of white toilet paper and has to pick one person to design a wedding dress on out of the tp.
The MOH printed one from online to match up old tradtions w/ current day wedding traditions.
