Unique Idea

Unique Idea

What are you adding to your wedding day to make it unique????
I decided because I am having a victorian theme wedding, instead of the bouquet toss. I replaced it with the Victorian charm cake; A bride would hide small charms (distinctive symbols of romance, love, friendship, memorials, etc.) attached to satin ribbons within the icing of her wedding cake. The bride would have each of her bridesmaids (as well as other important women in her life) pull a charm from the cake before it was cut. It was believed each charm had a special meaning, a bit of advice, or would foretell the future in luck, romance, fortune, etc

Our wedding ceremony has like a regal romance theme. I am doing trumpets and doves at the church which I always pictured to go with a princess so that's what I really wanted. The receptions theme is just us and our personalities. Things we like and things we wanted our guests to enjoy and say 'wow, this was different and I won't forget it.' At cocktail hour we have a very special menu of drinks that I know will make my guests smile. We are also having special dinner entertainment which is very, very different and unique so I'll keep that a surprise but I know no one I know has ever done anything like it so I am excited.

David Tutera said something yesterday that really hit home. He said that people don't have to spend a lot to make their day unique. A simple changing of the cake cutting time to the beginning instead the end can make people wonder whats coming next. I think it should just be exactly what ever bride envisioned. If you want a star wars sabre dance...have it. That's who you are!

Exactly why I'm doing the charm cake. I'm not a fan of some of the wedding traditions, and I really wanted people to see me and my FH personality! We will probably add our engagement photos to a table were people can leave advice and tips for us.

I love your idea! Saw that in a wedding on Four Weddings...

Being most of our guests are married and we won't be having many younger, or single guests... instead of the boquet toss we are going to give the boquet to the couple that has been married the longest.. IT actually happens that my fiance's aunt and uncles 60th anniversary is a week before our wedding... so we will give it to them as a way of honoring their love & what we aspire to be!

I love this idea!! We don't want to do a bouquet toss/garter/etc and this is such a sweet way of doing it instead!

There are going to be a ton of unique things added to our wedding. I am obsessed with The Wizard of Oz, so I made our cake topper-Dorothy & Scarecrow (ornaments) skipping down the yellow brick road :) There are silk flowers in our colors on either side of the road and in the back is our wedding date. I'm very proud of how it came out! My best friend was so confused when she saw it.. she was like 'Waitttt, that's amazing! where did you buy that?? I didn't know there was a market for wizard of oz cake toppers! haha

I also just made a set of mini witch legs out of polymer clay to put on the bottom layer of the cake--like the house that fell on the wicked witch of the east! I wanted something different and fun for our cake. I haven't decided what the actual cake will look like yet though.

I have a set of those charms!!! When I was in high school I worked at a Hallmark Store and I thought it was the cutest thing so I bought them hahaha...a little early I know but I wanted to make sure that I could have them for when I got married. Now I just have to find the plastic bin in the basement that has them inside!

Thanks! :)

Decor wise, not really... I didn't want to intentionally/unintentionally wind up with a wizard of oz 'theme' to my wedding, you know? So it's more just whimsical, fun stuff going on, which still goes with the oz stuff!

The only other Oz-related things are my garter and I am wearing ruby slippers!

I am obsessed with your charm idea... that sounds really different & just lovely!

That sounds so adorable with the cake toppers.

you said you used ornaments? Like Christmas ornaments? I have a unique idea for our cake topper, but it's goign to be difficult and .. hmm now you have me thinking.

My nickname is 'Faye' and Fh's is 'Dragon' .. so we were hoping for a dragon and butterfly/fairy cake topper.

Yup, a Christmas ornament! I used an ornament and glued it onto a wooden base that I painted like the yellow brick road. This is the ornament that I used:

I love the charm cake idea! So much more meaningful & personal! And def unique!!!

FH & I met on a website called 'Plenty of Fish' so we are having a cake topper with a groom sitting and fishing & the bait is a wedding band. The bride will be on the lower cake level reaching up for the ring!
I was at Tanger Outlets & met David Tutera & he also told me to incorporate the fish theme with the cake & favors, no real fish! Lol

I looove this idea Peace!!! What a nice touch!

I was at the David Tutera event too & I totally agree with him! Your wedding should be unique & meaningful to you & your personalities. It's the one day that you get to share that with everyone you love, in the same room!
BTW - did you get to buy his book? I got the last one!
