Unique Reception Sites PLEASE

Hi! I'm trying to find different reception sites - any suggestions? I'm up for anything at this point!

I posted on the other thread:

Prospect Park Boat House - fabulous architecture and setting - newly restored. I would have had my wedding there but it can only seat 80 max comfortably.

Less stunning but also in the Park is the Picnic House. Martha Stewart featured a wedding here a few years back. Also inside the park.

Fifteenth and West at the nassau county bar association in garden city - I am getting married here. They only advertise by word of mouth, so not many people know if it, and it is not 'over done'. Very classy and elegant and different, and 80$pp for a Saturday night. Also, they are flexible on the times since you are the only wedding, that was the selling point for me. good luck.

Coindre hall in huntington...We ruled it out b/c no a/c in summer, but if you want a cooler month?

Vanderbilt Planetarium Centerport...wish I knew about it when I was looking for halls...I grew up near it and would have loved it...

The Atlantis Aquarium in Riverhead does weddings too. The building is pretty cool on the inside.

Re: Unique Reception Sites PLEASE - (Long)

I just wanted to add -
Coindre Hall in Huntington is beautiful. I was really tempted to book there but I had several problems with the place - #! - As said before, no AC, #2 - You cannot have anything outside (not even cocktail hour) and the waterview is really one of the best parts about the place, #3 - Lessings is the caterer - I got really bad attitude from them for some reason when I called to inquire. They really weren't accomidating and never returned my calls.
Also - The Vanderbuilt in Centerport is stunning. They are pricey though - I think $5000 just for use of the grounds. I don't think they were doing weddings when I booked so I never considered them.
I booked at Sans Souci of Sea Cliff - It is an old mansion up on a hill overlooking the LI Sound. A really great place - great food, affordable and pretty unique. If you do a search on them, you'll find great reviews. Their website is www.sanssoucicaterers.com.
I hope this helps - Sorry this post is so long!

I FOUND THIS ARTICLE ON www.ultimatewedding.com. I thought I would post it for you - it doesnt give specific locations on Long Island but maybe it will spark some ideas.

GOOD LUCK

Unique Ideas for Reception Locations
While function halls, country clubs, and hotel ballrooms are still the most popular sites for receptions, these days there is no limit to where you can go. As long as people can gather there to eat, drink, and be merry, it will do. Here is a list of potential sites to consider.

· castles, estates, or historic mansions
· museums/art galleries
· scenic mountain resorts
· beaches
· gardens
· ships, boats, or yachts
· country inns
· farmhouses
· public gardens or parks
· luxury hotels
· historic hotels
· historic villages
· concert halls
· observatories
· ranches
· lighthouses
· pier or waterfront restaurants
· historic battleships
· plantations
· Indian reservation or memorial site
· apple orchards
· college or university chapels, halls, or courtyards
· traditional chapels
· beach clubs
· greenhouses
· aquariums
· theaters
· bed and breakfast sites
· historic train or train depot

There are also baseball parks, football fields, tennis courts, and other spots connected to hobbies or anything of common interest.

Odds are you will pay more to secure one of these nontraditional sites than you would for a standard venue, but weigh the cost against all that you will get for your money. In settings like these, your surroundings will not be part of an insignificant background. They will say something unique about you and your new husband. Estates and manors are stately and elegant; they offer opulence, style, and often the ambiance of an era gone by. Many have expansive grounds from the guests to stroll – there may be room for a tent for outdoor festivities. The works of art hanging in museums and art galleries can certainly compete with any centerpiece a caterer might provide; add a little music and you have got a reception to remember. Or what about a reception in late fall in an apple orchard – complete with chairs, tables, and a string quartet? Or even a reception inside or outside a lighthouse, with the soft waves of the water coming ashore and soft music in the background.

Granted, some of these options will depend on the season and the weather, but if Mother Nature cooperates, sites like these can make for a beautiful and memorable wedding day. Just remember, for outdoor sites you will need to establish a backup site elsewhere or include a large tent into your plans as a precaution against inclement weather.

Also - What about a vineyard out east? I know if you call around, some of them will let you have a wedding there -

Re: Unique Reception Sites PLEASE

One possible location we looked at which was so nice was CENTRAL PARK. They have several spots in the park you can get married at. You can then take a ride around central park in a horse/carriage after your ceremony! I dont have the web sites anymore but just do a search on Central Park.
We were going to do this however we live in Suffolk and thought that making our families travel into NYC for a 30 minute ceremony would bring us too much grief from them!
