Ok so I have my nice Waterford Unity Candle set. Exactly what do we do with it during the ceremony?

Beautiful!!!! I love that set!!
I think it is placed on the altar and the priest will make some sort of a prayer/speech and you two will walk over to the candle and light the big one together with your 2 individual candles.
The tapers stay lit as a sign of your individuality!!!!!

My uncle is a priest and he doesnt believe in unity candles, so I will have to do without, or have him not perform the ceremony. He has done everything for me, baptism, communion, confirmation, as well as all the grandchildren and cousins in the family, so I am going to buck up and pretend that it doesnt bother me, not even a little bit

Yesterday somebody had posted about the Blessing of the Hands as instead of the Unity Candle. She had mentioned something about the 2 moms doing something wiht them.
I thought it was just a bride and groom thing. Thanks FLaCaTaCa

Your welcome! I heard the mom's too! I heard that they can come and light to two tapers and then you guys take them and light the big one together. I am not doing this. I am being snooty about it but I don't want to have to worry if they are going to come up on time and together and stuff.

Ah thats how it works. Nah, I don't want the moms doing this either. I don't think my would want to so i'm not even going to tell her about it.

The mother's light the tapers and then the couple light the unity candle from the tapers - it symbolizes the two famlies becoming one.
