I have a question and need your opinion. My FMIL gave us a unity candle set soon after we were engaged. My wedding planner (my mom) freaked a little when she saw it yesterday. Mom's doing a wonderful job planning a simple but elegant wedding and unfortunately, the candle is very gaudy and over the top (lots of curly q's, colors etc). Should we just suck it up and use it?

Re: Unity Candle
I would. I think it's a nice gesture, and she might be hurt if you don't....

Re: Unity Candle
I would as well, it was nice of your fmil to get it and she did so before the 'mood' of the wedding was set. In the grand scheme of things, people probably won't notice of the unity candle is 'gaudy' compared to everything else.

Re: Unity Candle
marriage is about not only the relationship you build with your FH but also with his family...I think you using the unity candle would be a wonderful way to symbolize the sacrifices you're willing to make to keep those bonds close. you'll make her so happy, she'll never forget it!!!
