Unity Candle vs. Sand Ceremony

Does anyone have an opinion on reasons why it would be better to do the unity candle or better to do the sand ceremony? The sand seems like a cool idea, but I'm wondering if there are some downsides I just haven't thought of. Also, will my priest be weirded out if I want to do sand?? He's sort of a hippyish kinda guy, lol, I feel like he'll like it.

we wanted the candle ceremony but since the kids are going to be a part of it we are thinking sand may be a safer choice...I love the way the lighting of the candles looks though !!

IMO I would only do a sand ceremony if I was getting married outside by the beach.

i'll be in a church, but i saw pics of carolinebr's wedding and it looked soooo nice (but she was at atlantica so she was in a tent on the beach).

it just seems like a cool idea.

My cousin just had a sand ceremony at her wedding. It was in Aruba on the beach. I was worried the wind would be a problem but it wasn't.

I really like the sand ceremony for a beach / garden wedding or a ceremony at the RH.

I don't think it would be stupid... I am doing the candle but I'm nervous I'll be so shaky I'll put the flame out or spill wax on my dress or something.

I think the sand ceremony would be fine in a church - I'm almost positive it's been done.

Try asking the girls on the 07 board if they've done it in a church...

My sister just did the sand ceremony...first time I saw it done but it was really pretty and different

We're doing a sand ceremony...i figure it's something different & I really like the words that are used during the ceremony.. They're just so lovely...

I don't think it's weird to do a sand ceremony..I think many people will think it's just as beautiful as unity candles and probably more creative/unique. One pro about using sand is that you can keep it as a keepsake in the house. When it boils down to it, you should do whatever you like! rock on!
