Re: University of Pheonix Online?

I started going for my masters there. I walked into class the first day and there was 8 people in the class, by the second night of class there was 6 people in the class.
ALLL of our work was a group assignment and we were not going to receive any individual grades, which I was fine with....At first!
Then we met for our first Saturday group meeting to do our first paper. Everyone was supposed to do their part BEFORE they got there and we were supposed to work only for an hour or two to put it all together. When I got there one member of my group didn't bother doing her work and the other member of my group couldn't do his. Why couldn't he do his you ask? Well because he did not know how to structure a paper...forget paper, he did not know how to structure a paragraph. I spent 5 hours that day teaching him basic information on how to write a paper.
It went on like this for a while and then I had to get out, I couldn't take it anymore.
That was a few years ago, as I talk to more people I have found that my experience is not out of the ordinary because UofP does not have any entrance exams (the guy in my class who did not know about a paragraph didn't even have a BA or BS yet).
From a few companies I have talked to, it is not that much of a respected degree granting institute. I recommend looking elsewhere.

I would not recommend pursuing an online degree. From what I have heard, and what lilmrs says, online degrees are not as well received as degrees from fully accredited educational institutions. (Some are just interesting in getting your money)

If you are concerned about class times and availability...you should research some local colleges and universities. Some do offer online courses...and most have flexible schedules.

Good luck.

I am close to a campus so I went to class and did online.
Honestly, I was putting it nicely, that place is a diploma mill only interested in the money it can take in.

U of Phoenix is a fully accredited university, so any other college would accept the credits, but it is not as respected as other programs. Have you looked into SUNY Empire State? It is a SUNY where all the courseswork can be completed online or through the mail. Other SUNYs also offer online programs which are cheaper than Phoenix--check out here

I finished my bachelor's degree online at New York Institute of Technology. Your degree does not state that it was taken online and it is looked at as any other degree would be. I highly recommend NYIT. It is a lot of work, but worth it if you don't have the time (or energy) to go to the campus. I learned more with my online courses than on campus. You are forced to read.

Farmingdale offers an online degree in Security Systems Administration, which sounds like you might like it.

Re: University of Pheonix Online?

My DH got his MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix online.

The online programs are becoming more and more popular, and accepted.

His degree does not say 'online' on it at all.

I pursued my Master's the 'traditional' classroom way. And, now Rutgers is offering online courses with no differentiation between classroom and online.

So, I don't think you have to worry about 'online' versus 'classroom'

Just make sure your school is fully accredited (University of Phoenix is)

Good Luck!!

UOP is great... i only done 1 class so far but DW has complete 6 or so. FM if you have any direct questions. I find it very convient since im home. As for credits.. most major university will accept them in as a transfer if need be. Example..i took a copule of classes at University of Saint Leo Online... Dowling took them in without any problems. The description of the course was the same and 1 class even had the same book (different edition)
