FH and I are paying for our wedding ourselves AND saving for a downpayment on a house. We figured that 30,000 would be more than enough to have the wedding of our dreams.....HAHAHAHA NOPE!!
Are any of you girls finding that when you do these budget things on all the websites they give you unrealistic numbers?! One of them told me I could only spend $300 on the church....well my church is costing $750!! My favorite was $200 on transportation!!
Do any of you know a GOOD website that gives you a decent estimation of what you should pay? I have tried sooo many of them and none of them are realistic at all.

Re: unrealistic budget....
the best thing to do is just ask other brides doing it..For instance my limos at Royalty Limo are around $1500, we got a 22 passenger Escalade, and a rolls royce for me and my dad, as well as a car to take us to the Garden city Hotel.
Feel free to FM me for more info

'08er crashing!
My FH and I are on a very tight budget. We planned a long engagement so that we can have everything we want. We kept saying that 'everything will be fine' but in the back of my mind I was still nervous. So one night, we sat down and estimated everything ourselves. I then made an excel spreadsheet (i'm so anal, i know) and put everything down in writing and it is the first page in my wedding planner. This way, when I go to book a vendor now, I know how much I can spend and what is realistic. Unless you are rich, you will have to cut corners some where.
I hope this helps... it really did help me. If you want to see a template, FM me. I have it on my computer at work.
I would love to see a template, FM it to me if you don't mind.

My RH had told me on top of your RH you have to think another $20,000 just for everything else like limo, flowers, dj, dress, etc...

There are definitely ways to keep outside vendor costs down, but again, it depends on the size and scale of your wedding. You can easily keep flowers, limos, dj and photog around 10k... you just have to shop around.

Re: unrealistic budget....
We never really figured out a budget. We booked our hall and came up with what we think are worst case scenarios of what everything will cost and then started putting money aside to make that happen.

Re: unrealistic budget....
OK I'm starting to panic....... We havent done anything yet b/c we are waiting for me to finish summer school and take that money to put a down payment on the RH...... I know that i want to cut costs by doing as many DIY's as i can, i'm not going to do floral centerpieces, and i'm going to try to save money on my dress by going to RK or a discount store like that....... We havent come up with a budget yet but i definitely want to be no higher than $20,000 b/c we too are paying for the wedding and trying to save for ahouse.... we are aiming for feb 2009, should we go later in the year you think??? PANIC SETTING IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: unrealistic budget....
20,000 is our budget too, and those online budget things are just a estimate of how much your should spend. They don't take into account a lot of things. Like the one I used on the knot said that I could onlys spend 125.00 for our hotel room on our wedding night, now what hotel in new york (hotel, not motel) costs less than 200.00-250.00.

Re: unrealistic budget....
Brides.com has a budget calculator that will tell you how much to spend on each thing once you tell them what your budget is, but then you can move what they advise to give more to something like the RH and less of the budget for something like flowers so that you dont go over budget. That is what I have been using.
I hope this wasn't confusing........

the problem is that those sites give an estimate for prices in the US and outside of NYC those are the prices
