Unwanted Plus Ones

Unwanted Plus Ones

Why do people think that they should scrounge for a date to our wedding?!?!?!?

A few years ago FH was invited to a wedding and I was specifically NOT invited. I had been dating FH for 2 yrs or so. I was VERY insulted.

Because of this very reason, I decided that anyone who HAS a significant other could bring a date.

However, completely single people without people they are exclusively dating are not allowed to bring a date.

Are you allowing everyone to bring a date?

Re: Unwanted Plus Ones

Im calling people before invites go out (like cousins for example) and seeing if they are dating anyone. And if so, I want the persons first and last name. Then I will invite them together. If they are not seeing anyone, I will invite them alone. I have a friend who was invited to a wedding with a date and she was not seeing anyone. She rsvped with a date and ended up going alone. We are tight on our numbers so Im not putting up with stuff like that. If you can't tell me the dates name, they are not invited. I am not writing 'and guest' on anything at my wedding. i find it impersonal and somewhat rude.

since i know how much it sux to be invited to a wedding and have no date....we decided to suuck it up and invite every person with a guest (who was casually dating or even single)

most of the single guests didn't bring a date anyway...so it worked out even better

No. Only folks that are serious at the time we compiled the list. Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis, but we're having so much trouble with our numbers that we can't justify not inviting friends but allowing anyone who wants to bring a date.

We are inviting everyone with a date but hoping people don't bring someone just to bring them. I actually told some of my single gf's to bring other girls I would like to invite but just couldn't swing.

We are only inviting people in a serious relationship with a date. However, all my friends know each other so that's why we decided it wouldn't be uncomfortable for people to come alone. If the person did not know anyone I would invite them with a date.

Re: Unwanted Plus Ones

Luckily, as we're older, most of our friends are married or in long-term relationships. I have a good friend who lives in New Jersey who isn't dating anyone in particular right now, but I told her she could bring a date because she has a long drive and it would be more pleasant for her. One of my bosses is a widow, and doesn't date, but I suggested she might want to bring a young female relative of hers who is a former coworker of ours. I didn't invite her on her own as it's a small wedding and we don't talk much anymore, but I would like to see her there. There's a few others that we said OK to, but also suggested that they might not want to bring a guest, as there are going to be a few single women.

Weddings, particularly large ones, are a good place to meet people. It's sort of like being back in college, where everyone's a bit drunk and where instead of saying 'what's your major' you can say 'how do you know the bride/groom?' And everyone's all dressed up and looking their best...I think a lot of people are wasting an opportunity if they bring a date!

I'm only inviting people w/ guests if they have been dating for a year or more.

But I invited a lot of single people. Two tables of them and they are all pysched to hang out together.

We're inviting people that are in serious relationships where they just happen to be dating more than a year. Anyone who is single is invited single & if they want to bring someone they'd have to ask us because we don't have the room at this point. Luckily at least 6 people had told us they wanted to come single - even before the invites went out !

Only people who I know have a signifigant other.

this happened at our engagment party. Fh's cousin who was 17 at the time was invited with her parents. Well they called FH's mom and asked why she didn't get a invite for her self and her BF. well we all said we didn't know she had one. And we never met him so Why should he be invited?? They were dating what a whole 2 months. So she told FH's mom she wasn't going to go cause she didn't know anyone and couldn't bring her BF....Hello all of your cousins will be there and all of your aunts and uncles...WTH!!!!

Absolutely every adult (with the one exception of my aunt who is a widow) will be invited with a guest. I'd never invite an adult to a wedding without a guest.

Many of my single friends won't bring a date, anyway, but they are MORE than welcome to if they so choose.

I've never been invited to a wedding without a guest since I was 16. I only ever brought a guest, though, if I were dating someone, but I also always knew people at the wedding.

IMHO, all adults should be invited with a guest... but if you are having guest list issues, then you have to do what works for you.

Re: Unwanted Plus Ones

Originally I was planning on inviting only those who had been seriously dating, engaged and of course married to bring a date. But then it just got way to confusing and I was having trouble drawing a clear and fair line. Plus, with the way I originally planned it was looking like most of our friends were getting & guest but my cousins weren't-I thought that was rude to do to family. So, we just gave everyone over 18 & guest-It really only added like 15 people and hopefully people won't just scrounge up anyone to bring as a date.

We were afraid of not meeting our minimum so we invited everyone with a guest (except kids).

They shouldn't be scrounging around for a date if you didn't invite them '& Guest'. But if you did invite them '& Guest' then you can't blame them for wanting to bring someone.

The same thing happened to me, I with FH 3 1/2 years and I wasn't invited to a wedding. It defintately upset me.

Mostly everyone we are inviting will have and guest. When it gets closer we will review the guest list again and see if it all works out.
