UPcoming Holidays and In-laws/Family

who is just NOT looking forword to all the season festivities w/ their DH's family--

I like my new brother in law, but I just don't want to spend Thanksgiving w/ him and my DH's siblings (there are no parents) nor at xmas either. I just dred it! We just had a wedding and buying a house so we can't host a holiday this year...The sister is sooo opionated, and loud, the one brother is depressed and quiet, the brother who is hosting the holiday, his house is always freezing, and I just don't want to go. I sound like a spoiled brat, sorry!!!

It's all good. going to the inlaws for the holidays can be....hard. I think many of us understand that...

lol I actually love my fiancees family..its very small and i come from a huge family, so that might be why. But I definitely have no problem splitting up our day to spend time with both of our families

i will go out of my way to send cards and gifts to dhs family in florida and wont even get a phone call in return. they will send a card addressed only to my dh and when they call they just speak to him. i have never done anything to these people and counting my wedding i think i saw them 6 times. i try my hardest to get closer to them and they dont even send me a card for my b day. who do they think actually buys the cards and gifts there son sends them his mom is sooo rude im getting sick of it. if i dont get a card this year being it the first year im there daughter in law well then im done sorry to vent

my in-laws and my family are in NY. DH and me had decide to spend our first holidays together, we don't want the drama yet, but we are flying new year's eve to my country and spending new year's with my WHOLE family. I'm sure his mom is not going to like that.

Janwinter - absolutely you have a right to feel that way! It's high time they showed you some respect! I had the same issues for 11 of the 11 years I have been with husband. For two years (before I got pregant) they didn't even acknowledge me/speak to me/sent gifts & cards home only to 'husband', etc. It took them until I was 7 months pregnant to actually communicate with me - and I had alot of complications early on. They're all nicey-nice now but believe me, I will NEVER forget what they've done and how I was treated and how their appaling behavior would still continue if it wasn't for my daughter - the only granddaughter they have

I'm a little depressed about the holidays this year. As of right now, my dad is going to go to Philly (where stepmoms family is) for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. He does this every year. And then I'm expected to do the same. (he gave me s*it for wanting to host Christmas last year... 'what about stepmoms family?' Yeah what about them? let her go see them.) Well I was all set to go there for Christmas, but now DH says we can't afford it because we're going to Puerto Rico for 4 days the week before (for HIS grandfathers birthday). Meanwhile his family is Jewish. So I pretty much won't have too much of a Christmas.

So I'm a little peeved at both my dad and DH. What money are we going to need to go to Philly? We'll stay with someone. All we have to pay are tolls. ANd my dad is ALWAYS handing me money. And god forbid my dad NOT go to Philly for a holiday. My mom isn't an issue because she doesn't give me a hard time, but I would like to see her too at some point, but shes in PA and I'm sure DH will say we can't afford to visit.

*sigh* i had to vent to someone...
