***UPDATE*** i received one of the WORST phone call of my life

I was trying to decide if i wanted to post this, i decided to, i really need to vent.

I AM SOOOO SORRY THIS IS SO LONG!

Im a teacher, on my way home from work I recieved a call from my principal. He stated that one of my students is missing. She was supposed to be on the bus and never arrived and the parents are there flipping out. He askes me if I saw her. I explained that I walked her and the other bus children near the bus lines and watched them get online (which is what every teacher does) Now im second guessing myself, did i really see her get on the line? did she run off and i didnt see her? did she even walk into the building with me to get to the buses? Im so nervous i cant even remember. But i do remember that she was with me in the building, because she was running and i made her stop, walk back and try it again before getting on the line. So i feel a 'little' better knowing she was actually in the building and didnt run off. But i am also thinking, how can this be my fault, i put her on the line, they should be watching these kids and know who is going on what bus.

So now of course Im a nervous wreck, i dont know what to do. My principal says they called the other buses, no one has her on their bus. Now Im really flipping out, he ends the conversation with i will talk to you more about this later or tomorrow. Im like please let know know if you find her. The whole time he is making me feel like this is ALL my fault, even though i kept saying i saw her get on the line.

At this point im about to cry, im thinking these poor parents. what if someone snatched her (but i know she was in the building), them im like im a first year teacher, im going to be fired, i cant live with myself if this girls isnt found...

so in the car with my friend who is driving, i hang up and decide we have to go back to work , we were about 30 min away. Arrive at the school, run up to the office and one of the aides who stays late is like why did you come, so im like because my student is missing, She tells me they found her (THANK GOD!!!!!) she was on another bus (even though he tells me they called all the buses) from what i understood, I think the parent told her to take a different bus, never gave me a note and the student got on the old bus (something like this), the aide is telling me, didnt He (principal) tell you not to worry (NO!!! he made me feel like i was at fault!!!!)

anyway, Im so happy that she was found!!! I cant even tell you how happy!!!! I was till shaking for about an hour after but what a relief. But im sooooo very mad that he didnt even call me to let me know. If i hadnt gone back, i would have been a nervous wreck the entire afternoon/night that i wouldnt have spelt.

... ahh... i dont even want to talk to him tomorrow, sometimes he can be so mean and i freak out and get affraid to stick up for myself

***********************UPDATE**************************

went into work today, Principal was behind closed dorrs (i was seriously panicing driving to work today). I was relieved he didnt see me. I walked down and saw the aide that told me they found her yesterday. I had to ask her again what happened, just to double check that it wasnt my fault. So she said that the mother told my student to go on a different bus yesterday than normal. The student must have forgotten and got on her regular bus. AGAIN the mom never gave me a note and the student never told me. Again.. i was relieved!!!!! it def wasnt my fault! Of course i then confirmed it with the student (im a lunatic!!!! )

So we had a planning day today, my whole grade was together and i mentioned what happened to them. Just as i finish the accouncments come on and he says 'a reminder to all teachers... please make sure you walk your students to the bus line, there was an incident yesterday in which a student was on the wrong bus and was missing' I ALMOST DIED!!! He made it seem like it was carelessness by a teacher instead of a parent error (arrggg... i was so mad!!)

end of the day, i had to dismiss them. I asked the student 20 times what bus (she kept saying her regular bus) Tried calling 3 different #s for her parents to double check, no answer! arrgg!! Saw the principal and said 'i tried calling the parents, there was no answer, the student is insisting she takes XXX bus' THIS WAS MY WAY OF COVERING MY @$$!! He turns to me and goes 'yeah its XXX bus for the rest of the year' and walks away....

THATS IT??? what an idiot. But i guess its good i didnt get yelled at

Thanks girls for all the support, you def made me feel more confident that i was not at fault!!!

What a stupid person he is!! Just trying to find someone to blame to make himself look good.

I am glad they found her. It's a good thing you went back.

I'm glad everything worked out, I had anxiety just reading that, I can't imagine how you felt. In situations like that it's easy to second guess yourself and not believe what you really did see but you did a great job handling yourself. I'm sorry that the principal can be mean and it was not right of him to insinuate that this was all your fault, clearly it was not.

I'm really sorry this happened to you! I've seen a lot of similar close calls happen at my school, and I know all too well that administration is very often unsupportive. I'm not sure what else I can say, other then I understand your frustration, and thank goodness your student got home safely!

Thank God your student is okay!!! I would have reacted just like you! That was wrong of your principal not to notify you that the child was found. Sorry you had to go through that...but what is important is that the child is safe! You can relax now!

This has happened to me a few times and every time it is so terrible. My principal doesn't call back either to say everything is ok.

I think a lot of us are that way. It's not your fault that the kid got on the wrong bus if you didn't get a note informing you what was going on! Just stand strong when you talk to the principal tomorrow and remember, this is NOT your fault, don't let him try to pin the blame on you.

Don't let the situation ruin your night. It's not your fault. Make sure you speak to that mother about it though so it doesn't happen again. 7 wake ups left!

I am so glad that the little girl was found. I get myself all worked up over the way people say things to me. I would have done the same thing you did and gone back. There is a principal in my district that never sticks up for her teachers. She will always side with the parents and make you feel like c r a p. Thank god I am not in that school anymore. Thank god it is over and tomorrow if you see your principal see if he says anything to you.

Oh my I can totally understand why you are so upset plus the principal really shoudl have called you back. That is such a scary thing and to think that if you didnt go back to the school you would never have known and you of course wouldn't have gotten any sleep. Sorry that you had to go through that. That must have been really rough and upsetting. Oh yea and thank god the little girl was found
