OK, so for those of you who already know......I am planning to purchase my gown this week. I feel in LOVE with the Jim Hjelm dress Style#8611. Well, the price tag was higher than I wanted to spend. The bridal store can give it to me for $2500.
Well, my MOH was looking online and found this store. I need your HONEST opinions on this one girls. This is the same dress (inspired). The only difference is the beading work (I would ask them NOT to do the beading work they have pictured and used silver and clear beads like the original), the fabric, but I can get them to make it with Silk Satin and the price.........it's only $499.99! It will be higher with the changes I want.
But visually, what do you think? Could it pass as the original??????
Thanks girls........no matter what I do, the order has to be placed this week...........
Definatly. I also saw a replica in the bridal building in NYC. My friend got that dress its so pretty. Did you try pearlsplace.com?

the only difference i see is that the replica is a little 'shinier'. other than that, i would not have known.

The other difference I see is that the front part is sort of straight on the replica. The original is somewhat curvier.

I can't see the difference, and neither will any of your guests. However, IMHO, I wouldn't try to 'pass' it off as the original...why lie? I would just say it's a custom made dress, inspired by XYZ.

OH I agree.....I wouldn't ever try to pass it off as the original.....
I don't know ..... the longer I think about it, maybe it's wrong for me to get a replica? Is that insulting to the original designer? Hmmmmmmmm, why so stressful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I completely agree! It's not like your guests are going to look at your dress and know the designer anyway! I honestly don't think anyone cares about the designer... they'll just see you in a beautiful dress!

Re: UPDATE: Need honest opinions ASAP~
The original designer should be insulted charging too much money for her gowns! Lots of gowns have replicas, I think designers even expect it. Anyway, the only difference I see is that the original dress seems to be ivory and the other dress looks white, would u be getting the 2nd dress in a different color?

Maybe it will come down to the fit. Can you try on the replica?

That's what I'm concerned about as well The original fit is perfect! There is not refunds with the store and I can't try the dress on.........I really worried it won't look right in the proper places and I will loose my money......
Hmmmmmm, I think I've actually talked myself out of the replica.........

The only major difference I can see is the material of the replica. I don't like the 'shiny' look for that dress. I don't know what the designer dress looks like in person, so it is hard to say. Either way, it is a gorgeous dress!! Let us know what you decide!

Re: UPDATE: Need honest opinions ASAP~
I considered this as well, I mean we are only going to wear this dress for one night, BUT I was afraid of it not looking right as well. Also I was afriad that it would not be made well and fall apart on me...I mean you never know.
As for the insult, honestly who cares what they think...In a high-end designer's defense though, it's not them that charges the insane amount of money, it's the Bridal Salon. Wedding dresses are usually marked up by 210-230% by the stores. In reality they are probably getting the dresses for $1000 or less depending on the dress.
Plus - when it comes to these types of designers and dresses, the dresses are custom made, usually done by hand, that is why they are so expensive. The amount of time, type and cost of fabric, amount and $$ of embelishments and the man hours it takes to construct is what make them so pricey.
The less expensive dresses ($1500 or less) are made in a factory style setting, mass produced and usually stocked by the designer so when an order comes in they just ship the dress from their in-stock inventory. Being that they are made in that manner, they cost next to nothing to make and cost significantly less than their more expensive counterparts, from our end.
All I can say is that, you get what you pay for.

I definitely would not order a dress that I can't return and can't try on before purchase. Maybe you can bring the picture to a bridal boutique and see similar dresses they have to see how it might fit?

If you can't see or try it on before you purchase, then personally I wouldn't do it.
When I mentioned about the curviness, that's probably part of the fit. It may fit a bit differently than the original and if you're going to be turned off by that, I'd order something I can try on.

To answer your question, yes I do think it could pass as an original, but it is much shiny-er than the Jim Heljm. Have you seen it physically yet to notice the difference in fabric. I think the dress is GORGEOUS either way.
