Update on FBIL and 'not having children at the wedding' issue. IT'S WORSE THAN EVER!
Original post by Kathy116
Now my FBIL tells me that if I cared about his children they would be at the wedding...but since I'm never involved in his children's lives I just don't give a cr@p about them. (FI and I are NEVER invited over, I've offered to babysit for them numerous times because I don't get to see the children...they won't take us up on it).
This is just unbelievable...he then tells me that he's NEVER heard of having a wedding without children...that it must be a Polish thing (I'm polish, german and irish).
He just kept going on and on how everyone in his family including his mother is furious with me for doing this. (His wife now refuses to come to my bridal shower because of this drama).
I call my FMIL and she said that's not the case at all...that she's not upset with me in the least and she's shocked he said that.
This guy is the most rotten human being I've ever met.

I agree that children do not belong at weddings. My Fi has two nephews and a niece that will be there. I am not crazy about the idea but they are a big part of our lives and see them on a regular basis. So I have to make an exception. They are well behaved so I am not worried about them acting up.
Bottom line. It is your wedding and I wouldn't even let him get to you anymore. Just tell him it is not up for discussion. Case closed. He can come to the wedding or not. If he cared about you and your FI in the least he wouldn't keep going on about it.
Good Luck.

I agree with Misty. I have cousins that are very important to me...but, it is your wedding and if you feel that strongly about it, I guess that's what you should do.
It seems your other FIL's are fine with it...I think your FMIL and FFIL's feelings are the most important to consider and they seem to be okay. No damage done, just an obnoxious FBIL!!! It's a shame for people to use children as 'pawns' in their arguments!

I agree that young children under 16 do not belong at weddings. However I would never tell my brother/sister or FI's brother/sister that they couldn't bring their kids (any ages) to my wedding. They are not the same as cousins, etc... They are immediate family. JMO but that is how I am doing it.

I am not having any young children at my wedding, including my half sister who is 5. My family agrees with me, because she will be attached at my dad's leg, and he is going to be busy being the father of the groom and all. My cousins from florida are coming, but the youngest one is 11, so they are not really young. Another reason why I am not having small children is that my reception hall in on the water, and I dont want any disasters. Bad things can happen when little kids are running around with a body of water nearby.
I think you should stick to your guns, if they cant leave thier children home for one night, than screw them. People do find it annoying when there are children everywhere, and to tell you the truth all the people that I am inviting that have small children are excited to get out for the night without them!
