Update on the dress search!

Update on the dress search!

I completely need my 2012 girls help!

So...yesterday was my trip to the city to find the dress and the day definitely did not turn out the way I thought it would.

First I should start out by saying that I am extremely picky haha. I'm a plus size bride and I'm always afraid that these dresses that they have in any size over a 10 makes you either look like you're 50 years old or it makes you look super heavy.

So yesterday we went to RK Bridal and Kleinfelds. I won't go into crazy details but Kleinfeld's wasn't all its cracked up to be. The consultant was very nice and I did get to see a bunch of people from the show but I definitely did not find anything I liked there. Perhaps it was my low price-point but oh well.

At RK Bridal on the other hand I did find two dresses that looked nice. The first was a plainer dress by Symphony but the second was by Justin Alexander. Now here is the issue...when I came out in the J.A. my mom, aunt and mother-in-law all started to have tears in their eyes. The group of women next to us all gasped and said how beautiful it was on me and how it was 'the one'

The problem?...I really don't know if it is or not!! When I pictured my dream dress in my head I pictured an a-line, stain gown, with light beading and a corset lace up back. And this dress? This dress has slightly heavier beading, zip up back with the fake buttons and it is organza on the bottom, taffeta on the top and slightly bigger than an a-line, almost a ballgown. I stood in the store for a while literally staring in the mirror. It did give me a great figure and I do love the way it looks...but it's just nothing like I thought it would! I think it really is great and that I do really like it but I'm just so unsure!

So the real question from me to you is....
how did you ladies know your dress was 'the one?'

I have not been dress shopping yet, so I can't tell you about my 'it's the one moment,' but I've watched enough Say Yes to The Dress episodes to know that a dress you try on can definitely be 'the dress' even if it's not what you imagined. It's probably hard for you to let go of what you pictured your dress to be, but if you really like the dress then let your expectations go and enjoy the dress you found!!

I knew when I looked in the mirror and felt like a princess.

lame comment: my FH always calls me his little princess, so I knew that is how I wanted to look on our wedding day

ps: that dress is STUNNING!

Re: Update on the dress search!

The hard thing about wedding dress shopping is that wedding dresses are all (for the most part) beautiful!! When i was trying on dresses i loved all the dresses, the key was finding the dress that looked the most like ME. Their were a few dresses that i tried on that my mom and aunts would say 'this is the one! this is the dress' and although i thought it was beautiful, it didn't feel like ME. When you looked at yourself in the mirror, did you feel like, this is how i'm going to look on my wedding day. That's how i knew. When i tried on my dress i immediatly saw myself at my wedding. So my advice to you is, go with the dress that YOU love. I hope this helps!!!

The same thing happened to me, I was at Davids and I tried on a dress I came out and my mom cried(I had tried on 13 others before this and didn't get that reaction) we had 3 other people come up to me while I had it on and tell me how nice I looked in it....so I thought it was the ONE, but then the more and more I thought about it I realized I was settleing becuase everyone else loved it but I wasn't sure that I did.......

So I kept looking and then I found the one, and I knew it was as soon as I tried it on. I am also a plus size bride, have you went to lillettes, I had good luck there, and they have a good selection of Plus size.....

There is nothing wrong with picking a dress that is different than how you imagined it. However, when you talk about the dress, you don't sound like you are sold yet. I think you should go to another store and try on more that look like the Justin Alexander shape-wise. Maybe you have found the right silhouette but the wrong gown?
